The widebody definitely addresses the biggest issue I had with the C8. The side vents on the Stingray are hideous because they jut so far out past the bodywork, but here with the widebody, they actually swoop and flow into the bodywork. I hope the Z06 models get this treatment, it'll definitely make them a masterpiece!

@@Mangobrain82 IMSA also requires the cars to collect certain data using a variety of electronics during the events. They then submit the recorded data to the organization after the events are finished. The data is used to help ensure teams are complying with the regulations, and probably also to help make decisions about BoP. The pitot tubes are likely part of this since I think all of the cars have some form of them.

This car just got its first win at Daytona in IMSA and it was fast on the long runs it handles better than the porsche which is what the C7R struggled with. They now have the perfect combination of speed and handling.

No question that’s a great looking Corvette! There are lots of negative comments on the exhaust note but I have to say I think it has a great howling growl sound. I really like it. Can’t wait until the Rolex 24 and later on the Le Mans. It will be interesting how this brand new car competes.

For real. Let’s hope they’re using a DOHC that will find its way into the C8 Z06 or ZR1. A Corvette with some RPM would be awesome. Keep the base C8 with its current low revving engine with that broad torque curve - nothing wrong with that. But have a more race spec engine for the performance models. That would be ideal.

@Charles Taylor just making sure, so far only the c8 R has the flat plane right now as far as I know. Grand sport might also have pushrod along with the stingray. Flat plane engines are expected for the z06 and zr1 though. Stingray and grandsport should still sound like the c7 for the most part.

I love the looks and style of the new car, but the old one still holds a place in my heart that’s for sure. Thing is, the C7 platform was the most developed corvettes had ever been in the front-engine layout and they breached the breaking point in terms of squeezing out performance from that platform. The only reason they kept producing front engine layout cars wasn’t for performance, it was just to follow tradition because that’s the way things were, regardless of whether or not a mid-engine layout made more sense. But now they’ve reached the limit of the potential for speed, power, and reliability for their tried and true method of a front-engine platform, so they had to adapt to the changing world and that’s no ones fault, it’s just the way things are, Motorsport is evolving very fast and they simply had to keep up with the rest and invent something new to renew their potential in a new platform. The old vettes will be missed by all though, I’m sure of that!

I haven't missed an ALMS/IMSA race in almost 17 years. I go to cheer the Corvettes. The way the new car sounds is awful. It makes more power. Better high rpm potential. I get it. But it's a power limited class. The old engine was fine. And distinct. Corvette. You could hear where they were on track no matter where you were on the track. The mid engine thing, it's cool. The flat plane crank, unnecessary and killed a huge part of the Corvette allure. I am sad to hear them go.

Sincere question: Why do teams have to push their cars at low speeds as opposed to having the driver move it along itself?

My best guess is that the gearbox/drivetrain is not suited to moving off at low speed when cold/just after start up, so it has to be pushed as opposed to move under it's own power. Other reason could be save gas.

The clutch "vitrifies" quickly with too much slip and then is no longer useable. Which comes on top is that first gear usually runs until well above 100kph so you'd operate in constant slip at low speeds.

I thought the same thing when the idea of the mid-engine was coming out. How Chevrolet is being pretty much forced to make it look like a European car to appeal to the majority. Lately though after watching videos on it and getting the specs and just how much it has been improved is blowing my mind and making me love the Corvette even more. It is insane and I think it is a great idea for GM to turn the Vette into a true Super Car. Just imagine what the Vette is going to be in five years. Insane!
