I had a black 63 corvette convertible with red interior in 1974. 327 340 hp. 4 speed, wonder bar radio and factory luggage rack. Paid $1,500.00 for it! I was 20 years old and had the world by the balls! Got married and sold it. Should have kept the car and got rid of the wife!

That's a sweet corvette for sure ,it's refreshing to see a car that had honest mechanical faults . It's not a " nut and bolt restoration" by a flipper where your dealing with a death trap that needs tens of thousands to make it safe.

@@kiwiclassicsandcustoms9160the owner sounds like my dad. Just keep it going and do what needs to be done. My dad's one and only new car was a 66 Coronet that he drove for 30 years straight into retirement. It then became a weekend warrior and when he passed in 2011 it became mine. Other than rebuilding the original drivetrain to stock, it's still on the road wearing all its original patina.

I've got a 73 Buick 455 ci big block. If I drive her at highway speeds for a distance or just doing an Italian tune-up, plug gaps start to widen up. I check and re-gap my plugs once a year to keep it under control. Those big blocks like to open the points, too. I dwell her to 19 degrees and she LOVES it. Warmed, tap the key and she lights right off. THAT'S how I like my V-8 to fire up, almost instantly!!! I love that 'Vette, but the wheel/tire package doesn't look right to me. Amazing, it’s escaped being fitted with aftermarket wheels and fat tires, still has it’s original intake and carburetor, subsequent owners will correct all those deficiencies quickly, along with a full set of disc brakes. It sounded to me like a tire rubbing on bodywork, which is why I won’t be doing any diagnosis over my cell phone. It’s a beautiful car, I can see why the owner has cherished it all these years, I hope he has some nice drives this summer.

I love the '63-67 coupes. Never been a convertible fan. The roof comprises a big part of the styling of most vintage cars. If that were a coupe, it would have had the one year only split rear window. My favorite Corvettes are the '74-'77 models. I bought an orange '77 back in '89, wound up selling that one, then bought a white '76, which I still have. Had it for about 25 years.
@DanEBoyd
@DanEBoyd 4 ай бұрын
I was always a non-convertible fan too, but C2 and C3 Corvette convertibles, with their factory optional hard tops, suffer virtually zero styling penalty in my eyes. The soft tops, not so much. I always thought the '68-'72 GM A bodies did not lend themselves well to the convertible top, whereas the '64-'67 GM A bodies still maintained about the same basic profiles as their metal-roofed brethren.

@@paultrouskie1825 NICE. I used to work with a guy who had a gorgeous red 1967 coupe, 327 L79/4 speed in near new condition. Completely original. Matching numbers. He had owned it nearly 20 years, and had the complete history on it. He sold it, and only a few months later bought a new 2005 C6 base model. No way would I have given up the '67, unless I was giving up cars for good. But replacing it with a brand new computer car was the worst thing anybody could do IMO. I haven't seen him in over a decade, but I'll bet that C6 is worth half what he paid for it if that, and the '67 would have been worth more than he sold it for. I have to admit I would have been nervous driving the '67 on today's roads, with all the idiots out there.

When I was a teen in the late 1960's, I used to rebuild Borg Warner 4 speed transmissions like the one in this Corvette. Friends of friends would tear theirs up and I would fix them. I had a BW close ratio 4 speed 2.20 to one first gear in my CJ2A flat fendered Jeep with a tricked out 327 Chevy in it with 12 bolt 4.56 posi GM rear end and narrowed straight axle front end. The trans noise could have been worn out cluster gear thrust bearings, a missing or bent snap ring on the output shaft, or severely worn shift forks. I'm glad you got it sorted out. When you mentioned it missing on 1.5 cylinders, I immediately thought to change plugs, points and condenser to cure it. I also used to rebuild friends Rochester, Carter, and Holley carbs. The rebuild kit including new accelerator pump cost about $6 for yours back in the day. That's a beautiful car and thankfully it was left mostly original. In 1963, we took a trip to the Van Nuys, California, assembly plant to see my grandmother's new 1964 station wagon being built. I tried my darndest to get her to buy a Corvette instead after seeing the Mako Shark Corvette on display there. 60 years later the station wagon sits in a dark garage North of Los Angeles, not driven since 1973. My Jeep sits behind a house in the weather in Pismo Beach, rusting away. I am glad you have the Corvette back on the road behaving itself.

ASE Certified Tech, here; one (or both) of the lower ball joints is squeaking; one of the valves are not functioning properly due to issues with incorrect geometry; and the whining you are hearing that is the same in all gears sounds like the pinion bearing in the differential. For it you will want to asses the contact pattern on the teeth of the ring gear because that misalignment sounds pretty knarly. Please keep us updated

A few people have pointed the finger at the diff but it was all transmission noise. I did suspect the diff but driving it in realtime pointed to the trans. You just can't quite get the sound and feel from a video done on an IPhone and uploaded and downloaded that you get from an actual test drive as you know. The seat of your pants tells you a lot !

C2 Vettes are very desirable. No doubt that's a transmission whine you might also want to inspect the rear trailing arm bearings they are usually problematic on Vettes. Nice 63.

Can you imagine that for the Corvette's 75th anniversary in 2028, GM produced an old school C2 with of course the safety updates. It will never come to pass because of emission issues tec. etc., but.....

Kiwi-we absolutely love the work you show on your channel and have learned a lot from watching you. We have one big question about this video though; having a car with the same WCFB 4 barrel carb on it, and knowing how hard it is to find someone who knows what it is, let alone finding a place that has a rebuild kit for it, where in the world did you get the parts from to mend that fuel mixer?

Beautiful mid year Corvette. Love the red interior and black exterior. Sounds like a trans rebuild is in order. I owned a 65 427 4 spd roadster, and there’s nothing like 60’s American muscle cars.

That is a 64 vette. Has 64 hood and 64 gauges. I owned 2 of them. Tranny sounds like a rear pumpkin pinion gear. Might have to tighten the locking nut so that the gear makes correct contact.😅

Yeah it appears she is indeed a 64, owner told me it was a 63 so I just ran with that. It wasn't the diff as it turns out. Didn't have to touch it. It was all trans noise

Just curious, what did the gear oil look like and what level was it. I would suspect the owner constantly held the gear shift handle while driving all these years. I am surprised with that car being a one owner that they didn’t notice the misfire and hard start issue. It really shouldn’t be the first time for that. Cars that sit for extended times eat accelerator pump diaphragms regularly. They definitely made the right decision to bring it to you to get it fixed.

Rather than sink money into a gear box rebuild, I would've been tempted to throw the old Muncie Rock Crusher on the shelf and replace it with a Tremec 5 speed. C2's are my favorite generation Vette as well. Always loved the 1957 Corvette too. Broke my heart when I found out I don't fit in the damn thing.
