Wow I saw this movie back in the 80's when I was Maybe 7! What an awesome movie to watch back then! Now I'm just looking at this clip after maybe thirty years and thinking to myself that I didn't remember that mark was such a meanie. He truly wasn't as I remember that in the movie he was trying to find his car quickly and is kind of disappointed that the ride he got was a slow one so he ditched them to get a quicker ride. Also back then there was a sort of small rivalry between low riders/speedsters and others.

Character's also quite racist, but the rear "funny" thing is that he owns a real piece of shit custom 'Vette and he has the arrogance of criticizing some real cool og custom lowriders, in particular the super neat candy red lil Vega. Movie ain't bad thou, its calld "Corvette Summer", definitely worth a watch if you enjoy gear head centric B movies.

I'm Chicano and I thought they played it even handed rather than just a cliche, and it was nice seeing a mainstream movie back then feature lowriders. Hamill's character isn't some kind of authority on cars, just an impulsive naive kid obsessed with his corvette. Meanwhile the lowrider is amused by him not appreciating his ride and mocks him for it.

Nothing racist about this. You can dislike lowriders and still have nothing against Hispanics. That being said, I have to echo the appreciation that JAg had for the inclusion of the lowriders in this scene, for a lot of rural Midwest kids like me this was the first place they really saw a lowrider.

Not really, tacky ass shag interior and driving 15mph on the interstate is def something to be judgy about, then again he’d have a better argument if his own corvette wasn’t a gaudy 70s piece of shit but to his credit it is a performance car that gets driven a lot faster than 15mph
