Literally in the same boat as you are! I’ve been clean from heroin for 7 years, I’ve been on methadone maintenance during this time. A lot of people hate on it saying it’s a crutch or just another drug to get high on etc. I’m sure you’ve heard it. Some people tell me I’m not clean and I don’t deserve that sobriety time under my belt. But I tell them that I’m off the streets, I repaired relationships with family and friends, especially with my mom and little sister. I eat better and work out now. I have a routine. Held a job this entire time (except during Covid but still with same company) I got my life back! I hope all I well with your methadone program. I’m back on a taper again, at 89mg dropping 1mg every two weeks when I go to receive my takehomes. I’d be at month rn if I never missed that stupid call back 😭 I was at 110 mg at one point. That was what I found to be stable. I started a taper at 1mg/week and got to 89 but covid hit. The counselor I had got covid and was gone for like two months so my taper schedule wasn’t being updated anymore. So I just stopped for awhile and been at 89 for a while now. But I’m ready to get off this shit 🤣 I’m so over it. Yet extremely thankful for it and how much it’s helped me turn my life around. I really got lucky, i quit right when fentanyl started coming around my city. I tried a few batches of heroin cut with it before but at that time that’s all that really was around. Also I never used needles I only smoked heroin. Which is so crazy to me cuz we could smoke that shit all day and night long. None of us would overdose we would just nod off hard at one point n fall asleep. But trying that heroin cut with fent was thee most disgusting taste I have ever tried since I’ve been alive. The feeling was not the high I liked it made me feel weird. Like it skipped the high and went straight to a nod. My body felt heavy n i knew immediately, we gotta be careful with that shit. Nobody was doing straight fentanyl yet. Now the clinic im at just hit a 100% fentanyl users earlier this year. Used to be all heroin and a few pill addicts even seen some people getting off lean before (cough syrup). It’s scary shit now! Everyone I talk to has overdosed multiple times. People dying left n right! It’s absolutely insane! Now people are telling me that “iso” is what people are after and it’s just straight carfentanyl, which is a tranquilizer meant for horses and big animals! 🤦♂️ and narcan isn’t working on people who overdose on this stuff. Anyway sorry for long comment lol! ❤️🩹 so happy for you!!! Keep up the good work!

I can relate. While alcohol has never factored into my life, I know a couple of guys whose lives were really in the gutter in their younger years. They turned to drinking and drugs and one got his drivers license permanently suspended. Both are now 20 years sober and clean. As for me personally, I also fell on hard times. In 2014, I was let go from my job and I fell into really bad bouts of depression and anxiety, and I turned to self-harm by cutting myself. Eventually, in 2016, my parents caught me doing it. I've seen too many friends go down the path of excessive drug/alcohol use, many are dead. Most of my friends who died or have had major OD all were relapsing. I've heard about people focusing on moderation instead of sobriety for that reason and it makes a lot of sense. Indulging is one thing, but overindulging is dangerous. There's a lot of research that drugs like weed and shrooms can reduce chance of relapse and OD/death with even the hardest of drugs like crack and opiates. I hope more research is done in this area because the current program isn't every effective. Good luck with your addiction issues!

That all or nothing attitude we use to carry about drugs and alcohol in the 80's and 90's seldom work and led more kids to develop a curiosity rather than an avoidance of said substance. Cory's dad was wrong assuming the worst about Shawn, though I understand why he did what he did because that was his son. He had no right to fly off the handle at shawn pushing him further and further into his abandoment issues and his lack of trust in people.

I didn't want to feel that gut wrenching pain of a breakup either. It hurts more than physical pain, so much more. It's indescribable when you're forced to fall out of love with someone when that person is your whole world. And now you're all alone. I wouldn't wish that feeling towards my worst enemy. I self medicated for over a decade, woke up in hospitals more times than I can count, my parents having to take me to detox and then rehab over and over again and doctors would tell me most people would not wake up from that. I've been married twice since then and could never give my whole heart to them. My first and only true love happened and the time we spent together, words can't describe. She will always be in my heart. I got to experience a type of love most people never find in this world. I would give up everything for just one more day with her..

When these episodes we aired on Disney Channel this is one of the episodes that was cut from Disney Channel because they didn't want to show drinking. They also had a couple episodes about sex that were cut from Disney Channel also. But when they filmed some of those some of the characters felt uncomfortable with the episode because they didn't talk about contraception/using a condom. But in the end Cory and Topanga weren't ready to have sex so they didn't. It's a shame they remove these episodes from when they aired on Disney Channel because this would show kind of A Life Lesson to kids about underage drinking and sex.

LOL, that music when Cory takes the drink in front of the mirror, like somebody just died.

I look back at all the times I got hammered when I was younger. I think I would have had more fun if I had been sober

i think the problem i have with this episode is they tackle cory having a depressive episode and self destructs but right after they got caught he suddenly learns his lesson and then it switches to shawn using it cause alan triggered him. this episode could have tackled on corys true insecurities and shawn being the one helping him and maybe apologizing that cory was truly hurting but i guess plot twist.

I think its because Cory cares about Shawn way too much to let him get in any of the trouble because of his actions.

@ but like not every episode Shawn has, needs to be him being a wounded bird. Switch it up a bit, they could had the roles reversed that Shawn takes the blame and Cory continues to drink and Shawn confronts him and tells him the story of his dad and alcohol, and Cory breaking down saying that he hates being sad all the time and this is the only way people would like him.

I've had issues with this episode since it first aired for the exact reason you said. As a kid, I remember being so mad because it was yet another Shawn ordeal which by season 5, had grown tiresome.

Cory isn't a real alcoholic. A real alcoholic doesn't share.

I know a lot of drinking to forget your problems. You never do. A broken heart or a depressing life is difficult to overcome when you truly believe that your life as you knew it is over and will never get better.

Thanks bro, I really needed to read your comment. I’m currently going thru a bad break up. I’ve been drinking since 14. I’ve been cutting back slowly & just trying to focus on myself in a selfless way.

@christophergarza210 self care is the most important. Trust me drinking just leads to more issues. Keep on punching.

I teared up towards the end when he talks about topanga and then drinking with Shawn to not be alone.

3:26 you can see this is AI upscale. i wouldn't even have noticed if the letters on the white board looked weird when AI can't tell what it's suppost to be also you can see behind Coreys mod their is a Carrot board on the wall that has the signs of AI upscale.

Without shows like this, I would have never learned important life lessons. My parents were not qualified to properly raise kids.
