This is why I say Shawn had one of greatest written character arcs in tv history. He was the poor friend, the kid from a broken home, the rebellious kid, the kid almost adopted. From playboy, to Hopeless romantic to lost soul. He was written as the dumb comic relief then became very complicated and intelligent as he got older. His mother ran off, father died, and had a long lost brother. And I also believe he was written a beautiful interracial romance that totally was not focused on race. It really was my favorite show, I couldn’t wait for Fridays

@@BabyGirlTiny Actually if I remember correctly when Shawn told Jack about the letters that he used to write him Jack told Shawn that he never even knew about them and that if he had he would’ve gotten on a bus and come to see Shawn, but as far as the not abandoning Shawn thing I was thinking more about after they were back in eachothers lives because once that happened the only big reason they went their separate ways is because they had both grown up and they were going off to live their own lives. I could be mistaken of course but that was my interpretation of things.

I'm upset that they got rid of Minkus so early, but I always appreciate how real that kind of is. Sometimes you have someone in one class and then not see them much in the next few years. This show loves to give us new characters and dynamics and then change it by the next season. People drop out, move, get a new job, go to different schools, or just stop talking. I absolutely loved Boy Meets World growing up, and still do - I still watch it. The thing that Boy Meets World did I was impressed by was it grew up with it's audience. It didn't try to still be in the 8th grade and have 8th grade problems after 5 seasons. They expressed issues, in realistic ways, for a 13 year old. And then the same for a 16 year old, and so on. The show and characters grew up along side the audience.

This is one common misconception: Trina McGee (Angela) was not "mysteriously" left out of the series finale. The previous episode was all about Angela moving to Paris with her father, which she ultimately decided to do at the end. Why her character was written out like that, I don't know, but she wasn't left out of the final episode the same way Robert Reed was written out of the last episode of "The Brady Bunch".
@alleyj8262 жыл бұрын

I adored this show growing up, and still do so today. For me, the heart of the show was Cory and Shawn's bromance. While they couldn't be more different, they were close as can be, and it's nice to see a wholesome friendship depicted between two young boys.

That's what they over exaggerated in Girl Meets World. They made it over the top but it was cool. The first episode when Shawn is coming over on Girl Meets World really shows it
@TheCrawdaddy0292 жыл бұрын
My biggest complaint with girl Meets World is it was entirely too focused on Riley. Boy Meets World while Ben Savage AKA Corey was the main focus of the show and the show was named after this Focus there were other story arcs that didn't have anything to do with Corey Matthews. And Girl Meets World it is so focused on Riley that Corey will stop teaching class just so Riley can have a conversation with Maya
@laurenc41382 жыл бұрын
Mine was just how Disney it felt early on, it actually got pretty great and started having that boy meets world feel after the first few episodes, but it was so annoying in the beginning partly because it was the Riley show, and they flanderized her from the start. Every character was so one dimensional and “weird” beyond rationale, I was so happy when they started actually dealing with real issues and relying more heavily on the boy meets world nostalgia, made it worth it!

Boy meets world, as a show, meant so much to me actually showing the hardships of poverty, if even for a glimpse. Before this, whenever I saw “poor” families on tv the still had nice huge houses and always managed to come out of it ok. Shawn living in a trailer with an absentee father, and showing how ugly and difficult that all was meant a lot to me as a kid. I mean, he still went to college and turned out ok… there were people who cared for him no matter how bad he fucked up. And that was nice.

Honestly, this is one of the most important shows aimed at teens of all time. It tackles so many hard issues and big subjects in a great way. I think they used the right level of campiness with certain subjects (prom night) and they let others really resonate with a distinct lack of comedy (drinking episode and death of the lunch lady). I even think you can learn a lot from the college years seasons as well and while Eric becomes more and more of a cartoon, I think he's a prime example of how quickly someone can fall off the rails when they struggle to find their purpose. I thought he was great with his dad as a store owner and needed to follow that path. Or he needed to go back into TV seeing how well he did on the news job. If anything, the show didn't do enough to resolve why he became a cartoon character. They tried to rectify that in Girl Meets World, but it needed to happen before the finale of Boy Meets World. PS. Not fixating on the interracial aspect of Shawn and Angela was brilliant. It's not something that needs to be tackled of overcome on this show. The biggest lesson to be learned at that time was that it can be viewed as normal without making a fuss. The absence of commentary speaks louder than any commentary ever could have.

A lot of things to cover but I think this will cover a lot of it. They needed to make Shawn The deep sensitive and tortured poet. Considering he couldn’t even spell in the prior season I believe this is why they amped up Eric’s stupidity It made Shawn’s sudden intelligence not seen as ridiculous. If you notice around the same time is when Cory became a self observed child. gone was the loving sensitive guy because that needed to be Shawn. They also admittedly don’t care about plot holes A lot of the disagreements and character development did not make too much sense(Eric being the biggest example of a victim)but I think overall it was still one of the best sitcoms. More importantly you were the first person to keep it real about Trina. She was almost twice their age and tried to Joey Fatone her way into a tightknit group Outside of Wills comment from what I can tell at least her costars were not treating her inferior because she was black. South Park did a joke about this but around up being more dramatic. They went into how displaying a noose wasn’t racist everybody thought they were really racist Until it was revealed they didn’t even associate the noose with a black person. that’s what happened here. If he did not mean intentionally it’s not his job to research a bunch of African historiography to not offend somebody’s feelings Also his analogy sounds pretty darn accurate

I think when people do retrospects now of BMW William Russ is overlooked. I loved this show growing up, and still do. So much to the point that over the years my friends and family have bought me random seasons over the years until I had the full set. It’s a great show for a lot of reasons, but I think Russ kind of sums it up. He’s grounded, then funny, then serious in such a real way, then grounded, then funny. The “average Cory” episode really is the epitome of that. It has the best bit in the entire show (the celery poster) and (imo) the best dramatic moment when Alan takes Cory to the store he worked at as a teenager. “I strived for mediocre” his character is so fucking good. Betsy is fantastic too. A real power couple. The rest of the cast is also fantastic. Honestly, the best family friendly sitcom of all time, and I don’t think it’s close.

BOY MEETS WORLD was never intended to be or possibly be a Wonder Years type show it was originally just about what life is like with a boy living next door to his teacher However as time went on and the series kept coming back year after year it was becoming The Wonders Years reboot no one ever saw coming. After that the show began dealing with a boy named Cory Mathew’s as he journeys from Elementary School to Junior High to High School then too College and then eventually the real world. Along the way his teacher and mentor MR Feeny teaches him lessons not only about school but life as well also the incredible love story between Cory and Topanga the girl next door the girl he thought was weird but sort of always liked her but then eventually got with her and they faced many challenges over the years but in the end they lived happily ever after. Cory’s best friend Shawn Hunter became a ever bigger character than Cory at times because the show focused on his struggles growing up in a trailer park and his mom running out on him and his dad neglecting him he soon goes to live with a teacher named MR Turner who is sort of like his teacher and mentor. Shawn is a ladies and dates lots of girl but eventually settles down but he faces many challenges and obstacles but overcomes anything and everything that is thrown at him and succeeds to everyone’s highest expectations. Eric Mathew’s evolves a lot too and becomes MR Feenys shadow and philosopher of life well so he thinks. The Parents there friends to bullies to every situation and moment this show became something very different and very special Wonder Years of the 90s

I loved his character so much in the first seasons and it was a shame how obnoxious and Topanga obsessed he turned out by the end of the show.. 😌

The episode at 17:15, that one was such a hard episode to not relate to because we've all known that one kid we did wrong and never apologized to.

Just finished a rewatch of BMW, I always thought both Minkus and Frankie played much larger roles. Not sure if the Jr High structure is different on the east coast then it is on the west but I wish they had kept the main cast in jr high for at least another year. The first season is very different from the rest of the series as well and I really felt something missing the second season without Minkus there. That being said the 3rd and 4th season is prob the overall best in the series esp with Mr. Turner in it. The College years just felt so forced esp when Angela decides to go to the same college after only a few months (weeks?) of joining the group. Overall, I like BMW and to a lesser extent its spinoff because despite some of the funny stuff it always tries to a tell a story based in some reality

BMW was my childhood jam. I loved it. It dipped for me after they went to college though, but it was too popular to end at high school graduation which may have been a great way to end.

I was born in 1989 but I actually grew up watching and loving The Wonder Years, it wasn’t until around like 1998 or 1999 until I caught onto Boy Meets World because Disney started playing it alot

To each their own but Shawn and Corey had the best chemistry out of the whole cast, maybe challenged by Eric and Feeney.

I loved this show as a kid. I tried watching that spinoff sequel show on Disney Channel but it just wasn't the same. Also love that one of the girls i had a crush on in original series as a kid, is now an adult film star. Maitland Ward. :) Also i'm not sure why the narrator is so upset about the Jacobs guy not wanting race to be a central point. That sounds like how it SHOULD be. You can have an interracial couple without virtue signaling about it in magazines and treating it like its a weird oddity. That makes seems backwards.

One of the craziest things that happened to one of the actors in this show: Maitland Ward became a full-fledged adult film actress. Look it up.

TK needed more episodes than 1. She kinda was like a female version of Shawn. I mean of course Corey ends up with Topanga but you are absolutely right, would have been a great diversion for a bit especially with Harvey😉 as the older, protective brother.

From both the shows (bmw and gmw) I love rider and sabrina the most. Their storyline how it started and how it end up together was amazing .

For me my childhood staple show was The Wonder Years. I did like Boy Meets World too, but I identified more with the characters and time period of The Wonder Years. Plus the ending felt more realistic cuz how many people really end up with their childhood sweethearts forever? 🤷🏼♀️

you expected topanga to remain like that through adulthood? People mature and change. I think they showed that quite well with many characters.
@m0t0b33 Жыл бұрын
Actually she was more mature in the first season, cause she was being herself and had a depth to her, that got lost when she decided to be more into her looks, to care about people's opinions, to act like a spoilt little girl while still wanting a grown up relationship with her boyfriend... I mean she ran away at 16 cause she couldn't fathom being without Cory, then went the completely opposite way when her parents divorced and made it all about her and how she felt like love isn't even real, even though she had examples of all kinds around her. She went from an altruistic child to a pretty egotistic teen/adult. Also the fact that she still beat Minkus for Valedictorian was ridiculous because he was in the advanced class, it should've been a no brainer and a teachable moment on how she dropped the ball, academically.

I agree about TK. She was one character who could've continued on and not just as Harley Keiner's sister, but also as a bully for Topanga, and maybe a potential love interest for Shawn, since they were both rebels who were fast moving about relationships, and they had parental issues and troublemakers for brothers(Eddie Hunter was introduced just once later on). If Minkus stayed on the show then he would've been an even easier target for Harley Keiner than Cory was, though he had the smarts to defend himself better. I also preferred Topanga how she was in the first season of the show. She might not have appealed to viewers in the way her co-stars did but she stood out for her uniqueness.

I disagree. Their college years were always my favorite because I loved Will Friedle's change! He was so funny in college, to me he actually became the real star of the show.

This show was one of my favorites growing up. The casting was magnificent and the chemistry between them was mostly wonderful. It could make you laugh and sucker punch your feels. I still have warm, fuzzy feelings when I just hear the name (let alone think about the show). One thing I wanted to express: The Geek Party episode. It was one of my favorite episodes. So when they made the sequel series AND they had a Geek Party episode, I was ecstatic. And then the episode happened. Corey didn't even seem to remember his own Geek Party experience. All I would have wanted was a nod of recognition and a "Ah, Geek Party". It didn't have to be much, but a simple nod to the original fans. Instead, Corey the dad had to be informed by his daughter's best friend what was happening, because apparently he is a clueless adult. It killed my enthusiasm. I know it was a small thing, but that is how it made me feel.

I have very fond memories of this show, apparently so much so...I even oddly remembered practically every clip shown. Especially when Corey cheated, the bully girlfriend, and the obsessed girlfriend too. Likely because I thought they were pretty as I was exactly the same age as Corey at the time. The show was, especially the first two seasons, was so witty. I also VIVIDLY remember Minkis!

21:50 Will did nothing wrong. He literally said that he joked with her because he thought of her as a friend like the rest of the cast. If she got offended, that's her purposefully overlooking his view of her as one of the group and trying to create drama and make it all about her.

I understand, definitely. I would have seen it as a joke too, and if we're joking, it means you would have liked me, and it would have lead to us becoming closer. I think Trina was overthinking it, just a tad. I definitely give a little chuckle if someone saw me wearing a red headscarf and called me Aunt Jemima, knowing it's a little joke. I'm black, Jemima is black, it's good fun, c'mon

You are looking at an event from like 25 years ago with a modern lens. Judging a black woman who was born in the 70s. Maybe she has a right to her own feelings and experiences.

What was up with the identical plots that Boy Meets World and The Wonder Years shared which was basically the plot of an Everly Brothers song Wake Up Little Susie, where the lead couples innocently fall sleep while watching a movie, and everyone is like, “Yeah, Corey/Kevin are studs!” or whatever, and Topanga/Winnie is like “You think you a big man now, come get this!” or whatever, and the boys get all soft and wuss out. Anyway, can’t remember what I was getting at, great show, and great video!! 😄👏
