The thing is, I can explain what is going on theoretically here. It’s drop 2s harmonising a descending melody with enclosure on the V7 of IV major. But what’s insane... is that he comes up with gorgeous, edge of your seat material like this every day and in the moment without preparation. It just flows right out of him.

If you heard that on it's own outside the context of the rest of the music and had to guess the style, you'd more likely say German romanticism than gospel or any other American style.
