I say this time and time again. The difference between a good band and a great band are the second row. Anyone can play the tune and twiddly bits. But the best bands have a sound and that's filled by a confident back row. Corey definitely have that.

No musical organization is any better than its last chair players. Depth of talent is what makes it sound like this. This brass band sounds like American drum corps on steroids.

16:37 = soprano does his dance after the high notes 16:43 = soprano takers his glasses off and gets psyched up for the final last note 16:47 = soprano wipes is brow, rubs his head and does a jig to get extra ready for `the moment' 17:00 = the moment!

Seems to me the sop player's "antics" are in fact tics of some sort, it shows more obviously right at the end of the piece when he takes his glasses off and readies himself for the last note. Certainly don't think he's playing up for anybody. And I tell you what, I've never heard sop playing like it, so why should he change anyway? Staggering performance from a top, top band. My only regret is the camera didn't keep rolling for. 30 seconds more. I like watching the reactions of the players. when they know they have just put in a winning performance.
@christopherfinch31296 жыл бұрын
I think Steve shows that blowing is all the way from the feet to the lips. It seems he is playing as if his life depends upon it. His look of sheer exhaustion at the end of the piece clearly shows he gave 150%. Brilliant, and a lesson for us all.

Well done Cory. As near faultless as damn it. Who could not agree that today this band is The Perfect Storm. Every soloist is the best in their department, the support players are excellent and a masterful conductor commanding his troops with guile, sensitivity and authority. Bravo for this and the Albert Hall performance recently. But please Mr. Soprano, no more of the attention seeking histrionics. You may enjoy being a clown to your adoring travelling supporters but it lowers the tone. Behave yourself, man.
@stickswiper377 жыл бұрын
Ginger Cornet Hi there, thanks for your comments and glad you enjoyed the performances. I will just add that Steve on sop certainly isn't attention seeking, it's just the way he is (even in rehearsal).
@JarvisCoopers7 жыл бұрын
Steve is pretty much "as good as it gets" as a sop player, a tremendous musician and it is so awesome to see someone put their whole body into producing the music on the page. So much better than just sitting there like a robot.
