Intro and Cory's supervillain alter-ego: 0:00 Burning Questions: 7:35 Name Those Notes: 10:50 The first Metallica solo Cory HAD to learn: 24:12 The transition from jazz cat to funk freak: 25:57 The importance of movement and energy as a guitarist: 26:53 What most musicians overlook: 30:20 How to be an entrepreneur disguised as a guitar player: 34:45 The Cory Wong Archetype plug-in is awesome: 38:30 How life-threatening events can inspire you: 40:15 Cory was in high school drumline-it all makes sense now: 46:25 The trope of 'less is more': 48:25 Cory's supervillain advice: 50:40 Today’s guitar villain is Cory Wong. A groove master with a pocket deeper than Warren Buffet’s, Cory is one of the leading forces in the world of funk and is an equally competent arranger, producer, and tone aficionado. From his awesome playing in the cult band that is Vulfpeck to his solo music which just featured friend of the podcast Joe Satriani, Cory has made a name for himself through his rhythmic artistry and attention to detail as a musician. Cory also has his own podcast, called Wong Notes, so you know the two of us are gonna be right at home, on this episode of Guitar villains. @Elhesh It's not about that. Tyler is obviously a bit of a superfan of theirs and they arent exactly in the limelight as much anymore. Their interviews are usually not about guitar. The guitar magazine ones don't dig into anything good.

On the what musicians overlook section, I agree. I've been on a binge of watching live footage of Jack White's various projects, and all of them are so engaging (especially the Dead Weather stuff) because of how much they allow those musical experiences to run through their bodies. You can see and feel everything these musicians do.

I saw Cory live last year in Milan in November, amazing concert, there was so much energy flowin' in the room, incredible playin' by Cory and all the members of the band, REALLY REALLY GOOD TIMES. P.S.: With all the fancy funk guitar playin "in your face" style i also truy appreciated the chill moment of "Today I'm Gonna Get Myself A Real Job", that in some kind of way resonates with my life situation.

Man I would love to sit down and pick both of your heads apart but it'd definitely be easier to talk to Mr Wong cause I do live in Minnesota but as a fellow musician and guitarist it's always great to get other people's ideas or thought processes how to make music or how to play music so you can incorporate it into your own style because if you can't be diverse you box yourself in why do that just play what you feel or how you feel because people will connect to it more
