I have the bad habit of mentally comparing a reimagining to og. I obviously get this is really good. But its bloody hard to just not stop the video and go see the og. I think I have to refine my tastes somewhat ha ha😅 Metallica Original version is something else.

In the early days of the internet, I was trying to learn the guitar, so I would frequent tab sites. I came across one for Smoke on the Water. At the top of the page in all caps it said "NEVER EVER EVER PLAY THIS SONG IN A GUITAR STORE" 😂

When I played electric guitar I used 11s and that gave me a nice big fat sound, something that you can't get from them puny little strings.

In a roundabout way this reminds me of the first time I put 10s on my guitar. My first “real” guitar was an Epi SG (which I still have and love) but I immediately put Supers on it because that’s what I hear Angus Young played. A couple years down the line I put 10s on because I heard that was what comes standard on Gibson/Epiphones and I noticed a genuine difference in how the strings bent.

If I were playing primarily rhythm, I'd use heavier strings. If I were playing primarily lead, I'd use heavier strings.

There is some difference in tone as far as eq, but the main difference is that the tightness of the heavier strings and the floppyness of the lighter strings come through in the playing.

I started playing guitar at age 13. Guitar Hero was one of the most popular games out and my older brother got a piano and started teaching himself with KZbin videos how to play. I was jealous of the attention he was getting by playing an instrument and I proclaimed I wanted to learn guitar. My parents gifted me a guitar for Christmas and about a month and a half to two months in I had quit. After quitting, my brother scolded me for quitting and making our parents spend money on the guitar. I got so frustrated about that reality that I picked up the guitar again. that was 2008 and I have not put the guitar down since. I can't imagine where my life would be if I didn't have the guitar in it. I'm not a professional musician but I can definitely play. I thank my brother all the time for giving me that tough love and further inspiring me to not give up.

Was the most stupid thing I ever seen. Why can't you try the instrument with a song you like? A really loved song. I think I stick with Techno where people are intelligent.

That is ignorant. Who gives a crap what you play? When we were gigging a few years ago someone yelled a request for Free Bird. Do you know what we did? We played Free Bird. The crowd went nuts. You'd have thought Lynyrd Skynyrd was playing the song.
