Just FYI LoRa is a system that uses a bandwidth, bitrate, range tradeoff. By using a very narrow bandwidth you reduce the bitrate you can transmit but the energy is more concentrated so it can travel much further. You can usually use it in mesh or repeater modes to further increase range.

So those struts in the ground with the grub screw type fasteners ... what's going to happen when the weather heat cycles them? Surely they'd be best to drill through the inner strut so they're not just "clamping" but actually supporting? Or have I understood this wrong?

Thanks for the reply. It's possible that the correct torque will create locating "dimples" in the inner shaft, but my initial worry was that the heating and cooling would loosen them off. Hopefully they'll all move in unison and not damage anything if it does happen - it's a bloody cool array and the plant room is a techies "gentlemens club". Love the quality of electrical design and craftmanship that has gone into it. Hey Cory, great video and great installation. My comment is about the solution to the client’s requirements, not the electrical installation I have a pool, probably a similar size to that one at 50,000 litres. I got a 13kW ASHP for around £2k and got it installed for £300. It pulls maximum 3.5kW including the circulation pump. I run it for 3 hours at night and 3 hours in the afternoon (when solar power and solar gain are optimal) and the pool temperature is set at 32 degrees. My point being that this really is using a sledgehammer to crack a nut. Obviously I don’t know anything about the rest of the owner’s property load which may justify the system, just commenting on what I see

I thought, with 46,2kW of solar power that would exceed that victron bus bar? Victor setups of that size tend to have bigger copper bars. I put my 16 batteries in parallel pairs. Each pair has 52v / 250 amp fuses. With the load of turning on those 15 kva inverters you want each one on a on/off switch The copper coils in them will trip breakers if you do not. So I have one combined p 3 way 500amp each main breaker on the positive side for emergency off. Then 3 negative DC breakers. So when I'm doing a battery boot up from cold it does not trip the batteries 100 amp internal DC breaker switches. With the size of that room you should put some foam blocks between each of the inverters to stop the downdraft of heat when their own full power. Otherwise it tends to recycle the heat. It won't help so much once it's filled the room with heat.

Seems very odd design to be dropping £40k+ on battery storage to then run resistive (CoP 1) heating of the pool. Would be far more economical to have bought two less battery packs and replaced the oil boiler with a ground or air source heat pump! That would have improved the COP of the whole scheme immensely, which would have brought significant savings during marginal sunlight days, when the immersion heater load exceeds the generation capacity. Questionable system design but nice execution.

@xNYCMarc
@xNYCMarc Жыл бұрын
@@corymac Right, but it all comes from the sun. There isn’t a separate source of light. It’s silly and disingenuous to suggest that “daylight” is somehow not sunlight. If the sun weren’t there, there would be no light to reflect or diffuse. Also, direct sunlight on panels produces more energy. I have 29kw of panels on my roof and have had them since 2015. Panels in shade produce less than 1/3 the energy of panels in direct sunlight. I’m not really sure if you’re advocating putting panels in shaded locations. But it’s WRONG to do so if there is an unshaded location available.

Great content Cory. A WiFi link to the house would give much more flexibility for future automation/contactors, etc. If using Node-Red features of the Cerbo GX, along with being able to track house energy usage with something like EM24, EM540, or one of the new Victron meters due to be released soon. Is there a reason you are avoiding this kind of integration? Does this setup require a G99 application?
@LemonEnergy
@LemonEnergy Жыл бұрын
Whilst it operates off grid there is no requirement for a G99, the ultimate goal is to have it connected to sell back excess power however we are still waiting on the DNO to upgrade the supply. There is a fibre link back to the house for communication, the wireless switch was used as a quick simple way of diverting some of the excess solar into hot water. The ultimate goal is to have the whole house moved over to air source heat pumps with full zonal control and integration with the solar and batteries via Loxone.

The cost of the panels,inverters,installation and storage must be added together and divided by their expected life span, to give an accurate cost per year. Even the land used to mount the solar panels is a cost. Dont get me wrong, there is a lot about this install that is very good, even excellent from an equipment point of view.......but it is not free, it all costs $$$. Myself, living off grid for 5 years )) We had a large battery storage LiPo (not ion) storage facility near Rockhampton Australia catch fire recently.........DO NOT put your lithium storage in the same room as your inverters......thats asking for trouble. Put them in an adjacent fire resistant room.

@@zjzozn thank you for your reply. That seems quite reasonable given that it will save a £39k per year electric bill

16:34 that's why real installers put the rapid shutdown devices on the panels //before mounting them// so that when they're sitting their facing the sun they're not electrically dangerous. You instead mounted 10kW of panels with no shutdown so now the leads are live at high voltage

Rapid shutdown is not needed on a system like this. That's typically for roof mounted DC arrays.

High voltage DC is inherently more dangerous because you won't let go and it can also maintain an arc.

I prefer to avoid touching either. Both will kill regardless of how 😁

@@corymac oh no definitely dangerous either way. I think the perception of DC is safer is because we only really come in contact with DC say with cars which are 12v.
