My 2002 cav is still running in 2024. I bought it around 2005 with 20k miles. It is a factory dual fuel, normal gas and natural gas. Natural gas used till 2018 when natural gas expired, but used perfectly well with normal gas. I bought it when normal gas was $5 and natural gas $1.5. This cav is super economic! ... I grew up with toyotas, strong reliable cars. I never thought this basic car will end up been one of my favorite and most reliable cars ever (consider I previously owned a supra twin turbo v6 manual and still own a Highlander). This car is truly amazing!

I've had 19 Cavaliers, ranging from 96-05 and haven't managed to blow one up. However, the salt belts have basically made them unicorns. Which is a shame because most of these cars have proven to make over 400.000k
@CoryAtRandom4 жыл бұрын
Very cool. It would be cool if we could get this one to 400,000. We did a prepurchase inspection on it and looks to be in really good shape. We have some body work to do but at least the mechanics are doing ok.
@smashingstuff094 жыл бұрын
@@CoryAtRandom They're definitely capable as long as its maintained regularly and undercoated properly. 4/5 Cavaliers I've scrapped were only taken off the road due to severe rust issues underneath. Drivetrian wise, everything worked excellent aside from a 1996 I had with a bad headgasket. Good luck with it! Nice to see people actually keeping them together.

This one checked out as far as rust. We are lucky. Overall it is in really good shape. Need to do some repairs to the body and touch up the interior
@smashingstuff094 жыл бұрын
@@CoryAtRandom If that's the case, that car should have lots of life left in it. The one I had with 400k was kept extremely clean and well maintained, but unfortunately living in an area with harsh winters and salted roads ate away underneath of the car making it unsafe for the road. Otherwise I'd still be driving it, those cars in general are nearly extinct here

That’s what I have heard. They didn’t hold up well in the areas that get really bad weather. This one has spent its life in Texas so we are lucky. I will keep you updated on our progress.

@@MicklowFilms I do! 242k miles and still going strong with only regular preventative maintenance (oil, filter changes, and front brakes) although I might have changed the brakes before my last comment at 220k…. Has been the best car I’ve ever owned and I’ll drive it until the wheels fall off. 2002 was the best year in my opinion. Old 2200 ohv instead of the ecotec, and a 4 speed automatic. Wish it were a 5 speed, but oh well. I will get around to posting a video of it!

A little late but if anyone show interest in this post I'll update them on the build I'm doing with my 2005 2.2 auto Cav when I'm done. The short of it is a rebuild of the trans with upgraded parts and a LSD kit, rebuild of the engine with forged rods and pretty much all new components in the head (minus the cams, have blower cams ordered but have no idea when they'll come in so the stock will have to do right now.), and with the spoiler out of the way, a SS Cobalt manifold and a rebuilt M62.

Can I get an update. I’m picking one up tomorrow for $600. That runs fine AC/ heater still work well too. I’m going to make it my daily. Going to add a few mods body wise. Drive it until it quits or I get the money saved to do a complete rebuild. But I haven’t decided what I want to put under the hood. Was thinking just a crate engine/ motor that came in it. Tune it up a bit to just have a fun, quick daily driver. Because if you take care of these things. They take care of you

I like how much equipment was actually standard on this base model Cavalier . It had a good size 4 cylinder engine, power steering, abs, cd player, ac and a tachometer for 13k! Every other car in its class at the time had less standard equipment on the base versions.

I have had a 2002 2door Chevy Cavalier for about 2years put about 20000miles on her she has about 180000 now, its a 5speed manual trans and really fun to drive, so long as your not in traffic, just change the oil, my mechanic can't believe how she just goes, never had any issues, except for the Rust, it will probably Rust out before the engine gives out, also the clear coat is peeling, and the dash is cracking, but GOES she does she is my daily driver for now, thanks for your video.

I still see some old cavaliers running the roads where I lived...granted most look like hell, but they are running! I owned 2...an 85 (4 door box style cream color)and 96( 4 door Aqua colored for my wife) both were pretty much the base models with the 3 speed auto as the only option as well as a/c. When we got the 96, was going for a beretta with the 3.1 v6 but then decided again since they were discontinuing them and the cavalier was a new body style at the time.
