I just found this video and want to thank you for sharing. In 2020 I had a 7 year old who went under anesthesia for a dental cleaning and didn't wake up. It was traumatizing and made me reconsider dentals for my cats going forward. The vet spoke with me at the time and they suspected my cat had HCM but he had no heart murmur. In retrospect, he had an occasional cough that I think was related, but we didn't make the connection at the time. I recalled they mentioned some sort of blood test that wasn't standard, but could have possibly helped with a diagnosis and I believe the BNP test Dr. McManamey mentioned is what they were referring to. I'll definitely request this for all of my cats before they undergo anesthesia in the future.

I'm a vet tech and, at one point, owned two (unrelated) 1 yr old DSH with murmurs. At my specialty clinic, I had access to a cardiologist. One cat's murmur was very quiet (lived to be 17), and the other one had changes on his echo at the age of 4.
