Hi! I think masculine trouser / longer Bermuda style of shorts might fix your issue with shorts! I’d try low waist, slanted pockets for a little fullness around your hip area and take the length just to, or just above your knee. A trick to I do to balance the fullness of the pocket area is taper the shorts in at the knees - super easy to sew! You might already have trousers you like the fit of to chop. Add your black sandals / chunky loafers or real ratty old cowboy boots would be so cute for footwear, and throw a huge boxy blazer or baggy sweater over the top! You can do these in linen trousers. The trick is the knees!
