I grew up watching Jordan and the thing that separates Jordan from all the other great players, is Jordan was always in full command and could take the game over whenever he needed to. Honestly the only reason they ever lost is because he got other players involved a lot, and sometimes the deficit was too great to overcome because he was doing the right thing and getting teammates involved. If he hogged the ball as much as say someone like Kobe he would have averaged over 100 points a game and that is not an exaggeration. He was an absolute assassin. He was unguardable and was just about as incredible on defense as he was on offense. He was never off. He could score at will whenever he wanted to. Honestly if they just put the other 4 guys on the court with him to assist with defense and let them score occasionally to keep the other team honest, he could have won most games on his own offensively. In my lifetime starting from the 70’s he is not just the greatest basketball player ever, he is the greatest to ever play any sport. I have never seen a more dominant force in their respective sport than MJ was with basketball.

@MoNehNeh172 жыл бұрын
is that the case? idk i was born in 01’ but wasnt michael a super* ball hog when he first got to the league, averaging crazy nimbers but couldn’t win a championship that way. Then someone (idk a coach or veteran player) told him he NEEDS to involve and trust his teammates, then as he did that, in the 90s thats when the bulls went crazy.??? i could be wrong and probably am, but thats my learning and understanding, from watching videos like this. But i agree in theory any way.. that man could win at WILL. That one crazy stat that goes MJ made sure that he would never lose 3 games in a row- which lasted 8years/seasons- after a hard loss.
@vichunited Жыл бұрын
You got it wrong. Michael was a ball hog putting up crazy numbers in the beginning. Bit they never won a championship. But when phil jackson came he changed michaels mindset and made him realise he needs the team. That is when michael started getting bonkers in training session being the bad guy, squeezing every last bit from his teammates to make them a championship calibre team.
@jessejordache1869 Жыл бұрын
@@MoNehNeh17 Not exactly. what happened was Jordan turned a below average Bulls team into a contender. But they could never get past Detroit, who had serious depth of talent, and a coach who had a plan to neutralize Jordan, which is now referred to as "Jordan Rules": whenever Jordan got the ball, he would be doubled, with a third player cutting off his passing lanes. It was essentially a triple-team. The problem wasn't that Jordan was being a ballhog, it was that the Bulls had no reliable second scoring option. Enter Scottie Pippen, and the rest is history. OP is right, btw: I've seen all kinds of great players, but no one: NO ONE, had the ability to take over a game like Jordan when the Bulls needed to find an extra gear. Only Kobe comes close, but Kobe had slumps, and Jordan... just didn't. His consistency still freaks me out. And that's not even counting his ability on defense. Isolation plays just didn't work on him.
@snapperface12345 Жыл бұрын
@@jessejordache1869 that's a fact, I remember watching the bulls when he joined, they were trash! You can't be a ball hog when the whole team could barely score in the first place. He single handedly made that team better, then pippin came along in a trade and that's when it went nuts!

Hadn't thought about that. Great point!
@furryhoof6476 ай бұрын
@@michaelgeer5595Another point that seems overlooked is that a much higher percentage of MJ's 3pt shots were late in the shot/game clock heaves compared to today's players. He attempted 1.7 3pt/game, very rarely open, almost never part of the plan. He only attempted 3 3pt/game 3 seasons (38%, 43%, 37%)... The more attempts he took beyond just last second heaves, the higher his 3pt%. Imo if Jordan played in today's game, with today's spacing and gameplanning for open looks from 3, he would attempt 5 or 6 per game and hit 39-40%... Truthfully, it's hard to say because MJ never shifted the focus of his formidable will toward distance shooting.

The Ultimate Bo Jackson Fan...... MJ Fan....BUT Michael Jordan is NOT, and I repeat not the GOAT...... Growing up we had a black and white tv, 19 inch, 3 channels is all you could get, those of you my age will remember.....THen came color television and then....Cable Television...... At the time of MJ, television became a world wide 24 hour a day spotlight for every family in the world....Had Wilt Chamberlain been in the era of Jordan, Wilt would be the Biggest and Largest event the world would have seen....and if Wilt had been on a team such as the Celtics or Lakers, with team players, he would easily have 10 or more rings........These people today 35 and younger have no idea of the magnitude that Wilt was. He was a superhuman in strength, and athletic ability.... A track star and high-jumper, power lifter and could run the basketball court all day long..........................This is not an opinion, its all factual..... Now, if this Zion kid can stay healthy, he will be the next Phenom!........................Everybody listen to me...Stay healthy, love your family and friends and enjoy your lives... May God Bless You All! now, go have a great day!
@VBugg4 жыл бұрын
You make a solid point Jim and had Wilt played for Boston instead of LA he would definitely have won more but he was a Laker at the end & Bill was pure Boston. The home of champions. That said to the point of the argument, Wilt needed someone to give him the ball to score. Mike could, and would, get pissed off, grab his own board, call an iso after bringing it up, then dunk on you and stare you down. After he was done abusing you the sane mind said oh no I've pissed off the only guy that can do whatever he wants whenever he wants. Apologize to your teammates in the next timeout. Wilt was a phenomenal athlete no doubt, but he wasn't Mike on the court. I'm 45. Stilt preceded my memory but I'm a historian.
@alcondragon4 жыл бұрын
@@VBugg thank you for your response. I understand what you are saying, but if you can take a day or weekend and search out some of Wilts games. He was the Ultimate intimidation factor on the court! As a kid I loved basketball and my older brother and I use to watch his games on cable tv lol... Wilt could run the ball up the floor and there was no one that coul stop him.... Here is the saddest part V... I have to repeat, Jordan was at the Peak of television being watched in the home... Bird and Magic saved the NBA as its ratings were going down hill.. (Not to forget to mention-Had Doctor J been in this era with Jordan, Jordan would be number 3 or 4 right after Wilt, Doctor J) People mostly remember only what they see..... And those of us who saw Wilt, Doctor J, and the rest know who the best would be..... Do you really think Wilt would let MJ run on him? Slam on him?....lol, MJ would have been laying out cold on the floor.....V.Bugg, at our ages there was so much we got to see, so many great world athletes and plays most kids will never know..... Is MJ the greatest, it only depends on who you ask. I want to see this Kid Zion.... He needs to trim down and stay healthy.... But good Gawd he is exciting... Have a great day Sir!

The 90s were the best time to be in. Basketball at its peak with MJ, cricket at its peak, Bodybuilding at its peak with Dorian and Ronnie, WWE at its peak with the attitude era, and music was excellent too. No social media bs and no smart phone bs.

I'd say more Dorian even though Ronnie win in 98 99. 90s BB had massive stars like Kevin Levrone, Cormier, Ray, dillet and a never ending list. Being a NYer I hated the knicks losing to the bulls and also as a Londoner I hated Man Utd with a passion. Still do to this day.

According to Magic Johnson, during a scrimmage game while preparing for the 1992 Olympics, he was guarding Jordan. Magic put a move on MJ and scored. At which point Magic told MJ, "I got you Mikey! I got you!" The next thing he knew Jordan had scored about 15 points on him. When asked about it Magic replied, "why did I ever say that."

That's why many athletes can break records in practice, but during the Olympics, when faced with a great opponent, they can't repeat the performance. Champions rise to the occasion, and good players put up great stats. LeWilt Chamberlain James is a really good player with some amazing stats. Michael Jordan is a Champion first and foremost.
