Thankyou for Coming back on my 2nd (Mini Series of the Voigtlander Lenses)
The Ultron 27mm F2 (X-Mount)
This mini series is dedicated for people who are wanting to shoot with digital side (due to budget constraints of shooting with film cameras total overall cost is rising) to fullfil their needs I started this mini series where I shoot with a Manual Focus Lense from Voigtlander. I previously 1 year ago shot with the Nokton 35mm F1.2
and to be honest with you guys the only 3rd party brand that I highly can advocate for fujifilm is probably going to be Cosina (Voigtlander) which only makes manual focus lenses, making it feasable for people who are shifting towards digital.
since there was too many things to talk about especially on this lense (also giving you guys background info) im sad to say its pretty long...
but I really enjoyed shooting with this lense since due to the compact lightweight form factor like I said it does not have autofocus so if thats a priority (the Fujifilms 27mm F2.8 which I do not own is worthy to consider) but since this lense is F2 it is much brighter than the F2.8 variant from fujifilm and the outerfocus is out of this world.
I did not include the whisky photos since then this video will get turned down for advocating alcohol or get backlash from Cosina HQ for "how dare you smuggle Black NIkka into our lense" as a subnail. but it just looked epic in my mind and had to add additional punch to the photo since the lense itself is too small for the frame to cover.....what am I saying...composition need extra spice
I hope you are still reading while the video uploads but you guys know me I am unfortunately not a provacative street shooter and since I already own my beloved 35mm F1.2 Nokton...in the end I will probably change ships towards the 18mm Color Skopar F2.8 since it makes sense to own a 28mm and a 50mm instead of a 40mm and 50mm (the focal length is too close in my mind)
but like I said in the video the 40mm for a lot of people sounds great since the great thing about 40mm is you dont have to step backwards like the 50mm to get the framing or step one step closer to the subject like shooting with the 35mm and since its sits in the middle you do not get as much distortion and to some people it looks natural in the eyes.
so hopefully i made contribution to the film community since as a lense meant for digital it does share commonalities with that shooting with film camera experience .

Another fantastic video! I saw the silver "flower" artwork from 9:18 and 9:24 at a major street (can't remember the name...) 5 blocks away from Shibuya Station when I visited Japan in 2023. I was wondering what it meant and who made it. Nice to learn yet even more from your videos :D

Thanks for watching :) If this was my first Voigtlander lenses I would have kept it for long since it's really damn small compact and lightweight nothing to beat but the focal length is too similar to the 23mm F1.2 Nokton Voigtlander and I wasn't a street type of person but if I was would definitely chose the 27mm F2 Ultron it won't disappoint

@@RM.TokyoPhotographer i have also 35mm f1.2 and same as 23mm i believe,it has some flaws between 1.2 and 2.0,also infinite is not infinite,Ultron solving all this issues .....and it has the best 3d pop up ;) i own also fuji 27mmf2.8 but Voigtlander stick to my camera :)

I liked your rationale, Ryo. The hardest thing is to resist buying the many great value lenses and only invest in a handful of high quality lenses, but high quality is where you want to end up. Good luck. I think you have a good future in this, you are natually charasmatic on screen.

Thank you so much for encouraging me on my journey Voigtlander/Cosina creates one of the greatest manual focus lenses for Mirrorless/film era. Although everyone has a limited budget it's better to get one great lense than a few okay/soso lense and cherish it till life :)

Great review. I want to try my hands on a manual lens and I love street photography too I wanted to know if you think I should rent the 27 mm 2.8 first before committing to the voigtlander 27mm
@RM.TokyoPhotographer
@RM.TokyoPhotographer 2 ай бұрын
Thanks for commenting ☺️ I would highly recommend renting if you have the opportunity...since for alot of people the Fujifilms 27mm 2.8 is a great lense for photography. I never used the 27mm 2.8 but I hear the gen 2 version is really refined thus it was less available in Tokyo since ppl just went after it. One thing to note that lense in particular is going to be used mostly with autofocus in mind and as I said in the video pancake lense tend to sacrifice the width of focus ring so it might be hard to do it on the Fujifilms version Either one will not disappoint for sure

Hey thank for the video ! It's great. Quick question, with this lens on, is the distance scale on the camera working?
@RM.TokyoPhotographer
@RM.TokyoPhotographer 2 ай бұрын
I actually have to get back home to check on the distance since I rarely use distance on LCD screen...plz wait a moment.....bc I don't want to give false info (my pixel phone almost corrected to Fatso info 😂)

Came home yes the distance scale works flawlessly the CPU contact on Voigtlander lenses relay the info to Fujifilm system

hi, i just happened to stumble upon your channel. i have an X-T20 and in my opinion, it struggles a bit with indoor/low-light AF so i was thinking of changing to manual focus. would using this lens improve my focus hit-rate?
@RM.TokyoPhotographer
@RM.TokyoPhotographer 2 ай бұрын
Thanks for finding my video that's a hard question since the XT-20 LCD screen isn't that super high resolution compared to the recent XT-50/XT-5/XH2s which have a clearer image when you double click the rear dial for close up focusing (punching in) I basically use that function when I focus and get a high rate however long time ago I borrowed an XT-20 and tried to do it but the image looked too grainy in my eyes unfortunately and in pitch black environment I am skeptical about the hit rate....

It's a great lens. Just feels wrong manually focusing on my Fuji camera. I had it for a while, but kept reaching for the 27mm fuji with auto focus instead.

This really depends since the 27mm F2.8 I never used it but seems to feel like a point and shoot and due to its compact size the Voigtlander might be hard to focus but in a way it might feel better with a combination of the XPro series rangefinder like camera. . Size wise it's close to a Leica lense which I do not have the budget to buy 😂

I also owned this lens, unfortunately, I decided not to keep it, it had two issues I didn't like, #1 the focusing tab was too small and the focusing movement extremely soft with no resistance to the touch, #2 shotting at F2.0, would produce elliptical bokeh lights at night.
@RM.TokyoPhotographer
@RM.TokyoPhotographer 2 ай бұрын
Thanks yeah like any vintage type of lense it's really depends on that person and it's one of those things where you have to try it out and understand if it matches that person taste. The outer focus is really unique that might appeal for a specific type of person especially at night photography. I think the focus they made it with less resistance with appealed to alot of street users who would prefer really fast paced environment moving from close up to infinity. I kinda wish they added a little bit more since I shoot slowly 😂
