Thank you for this tutorial! I hated my topper when I first got it. It was my first helper hair piece ever too. I was so discouraged and didnt want to "waste" anymore money. After watching your video, I felt brave enough to try cutting it myself. I'm so glad I did! You give very detailed instructions and don't go too fast. Thank you again!

Great. Thanks. You are an excellent teacher. I get how I have to be more careful than I am when trimming my own hair. I have not bought a topper yet. I have let my hair grow out to gray. I can’t decide what color topper would work. I so appreciate your topper videos..well, all your videos, I like.

Jill you are such a patient and thorough teacher, thank you. I haven’t started wearing them yet but I have two toppers and two wigs. I’ve paid my stylist to cut in both toppers and one wig. I’d like to try to cut the second wig myself. Do you have a video on gutting a long wavy wig? I bought the rose Ella by belle tress a while back when I was still young enough to wear longer hair. I don’t know what I was thinking but I’m at an age where I need it to be a little shorter. 😔 The expense of taking my pieces to the stylist is killing me ( on top of the initial cost of the pieces themselves). Or maybe you can direct me to someone else who has such a tutorial. Thank you once again, I love your channel.

I just bought the Top Secret at a wig shop. They were wonderful...trimmed it etc. But it is still so much hair for me. I live 3 hours from this wig shop & honestly kind of embarrassed to search our small town for someone experienced with trimming/thinning wigs. I wish I had your confidence.❤️

Nice video - would love to see you do one on cutting long layers into a topper- mine is so heavy and blunt but I am afraid to just go at it. But I definitely need some lift and movement in the piece. Struggling...

how do you keep the volume/ lift on the front, mine { Racheal welch , top billing 12"} has gone flat !!! can I relict the front with heat / round air brush??

My 2nd topper arrived. My first one I cut on the wig head and never thinned the ends…looks sooo thick. BUT HERE IS MY QUESTION: my hair is the same color as the topper, so I don’t want to cut my own hair. Would it be a good idea to put on a wig cap to hold in mu (thin and fine) hair during cutting process?
@cyndicaldwell84374 жыл бұрын
best video- I'm thinking of dipping a toe in - but love your presentations. you seem like my best girl friend. quick question - how do you measure your topper length for purchase ie 8" or 12" that type of thing. thanks Jill

Also do you recommend washing the synthetic topper first before the cut when it’s right out of the box?

I don't recommend washing it right out of the box. I prolong washing my pieces as long as I can.

Looks great to me! I wish I had your confidence. I’m taking my topper to the salon for a trim but I’m nervous. I’m not sure my stylist has that much experience with wigs and toppers.

Thanks, Karen! I have to say that even though I am a Cosmetologist....cutting these synthetic fibers in these wigs/toppers really is a whole different ball game! Some of the techniques I am so use to utilizing w/ human hair just do not apply w/ these fibers. It's been an expensive lesson to learn. Many non-stylists are completely brilliant at trimming up their wigs and toppers! If it's a topper she is trimming for you...I would suggest having her trim it with it ON YOUR HEAD. She'll need to be careful and hold the topper so it doesn't pull on your own bio hair...but, it's the only way to really get it to work, I think. ;) Keep us posted! I am sure she will do a great job!
@karencassidy5136 жыл бұрын
I actually found a wig shop about 40 minutes from me that does salon services, cut, style, even wash and style. Much more confident in their ability to trim my topper! Yea!! I’m going in a week so I’ll let you know how it goes.

I have a question for you. Don't know if you will even see this comment! I ordered a Paul Young topper. I have one of their ponytails in this color and it really matches my salt and pepper hair well. But this topper came with bangs. I think that looks pretty fake - I have my own bangs! Do you know if there is a way to cut off bangs on a topper? thanks!

Oh Jill. You are not the only one who "forgets". I ordered an Upstage from oyster wig closeouts and didn't realize that the biscuit was not the shaded biscuit :-(. It looks awful on me without roots. So I called to ask for an exchange and they can't exchange....final sales. So don't feel bad, ur not alone....

I think it looks good. I took a topper to have them trim to my own length. They didn’t do that great with blending. Now my 12” topper is maybe 4-5 “. I think I’ll do my own from now on even though I’m not a professional. I don’t know if I’ll even wear the thing now. My bio hair is very layered and I’ve tried fixing the topper to blend and have some layers. I may need to get a layered wig and turn it into a topper, I don’t know.
@JillLynnBeautyTherapy6 жыл бұрын
You can do it Marilyn! Sorry that happened. :( What have you got to lose at this point? I'll do another one in the future on how to layer. ;) Thanks for watching this morning!

Jill Lynn Beauty Therapy thanks for your encouraging words! I look forward to seeing more trimming videos. I have Jamison by Estetica, which is a bob with the same length bangs. I’d like to trim the bang to feather more so my face doesn’t look so long and it doesn’t fall in my face so much. I’ll eventually get up the courage😹. Thank you for your videos, they really help.

Funny that I just saw this! I *just* trimmed my JR Top Notch last night with face framing but was not sure how to do the back!! Now I know😉 I am curious...do you always have your bio hair darker than your toppers or is that topper just really light? I never noticed that your bio hair was so brown?? Thank you again for an informative video.
@JillLynnBeautyTherapy6 жыл бұрын
Hi Sue! I wish I would have been able to actually film while I was cutting the back. :( Next time I'll have someone film for me when I do one of these! OYE! Yes...my bio hair has always been this dark of brown. It is actually colored to give me a warmer brown. My natural brown is very ashy, and some grey and it didn't match the rooting of any of my 'blondes'. I just did it myself with drugstore hair color. It was an inexpensive option for now until I can get my hair colored/highlighted to actually match my toppers. It's no ideal....but, it works 'ok' for now! Thanks for watching!!

Hi Cathy! Yes, I couldn't get it to work for me. I tried to cut it to suit me....but ended up taking too much off. ;) I really am not sure I would have liked it even if the hair trim worked out. It needed more movement and layers perhaps? Out of the toppers I have tried, that one just 'looked' like it was fake on me. I don't know how to explain it. ;)
