Cosmic Awareness: Conversations With Carlos Castaneda

In An Impersonal Organism, Carlos explains that the purpose of the nagual’s Rule is to create collective entities called “parties”-groups of warriors who harmonize their individual intents to form a single self-aware organism. These organisms exist to explore dimensions of awareness beyond human limitations, known as the “third attention.” Unlike ordinary individuals, members of a party transcend ego, routine, and ignorance, merging into a unified energy state where individuality dissolves.
Carlos compares this concept to the human body, where each cell, although somewhat autonomous, serves the greater purpose of the whole organism. Similarly, a party functions as a cohesive, impersonal entity guided by a higher evolutionary intent. Warriors within a party complement one another energetically, combining luminous patterns that align and fuse for optimal power. This fusion of energy creates a life form that is far removed from everyday human concerns, achieving a state of awareness inaccessible to isolated beings. Once integrated into a party, returning to individuality is impossible without death, as the party becomes a singular, living, non-human organism.
