Really enjoyed seeing Carol Danvers her first appearance. And you are right about those panels with Marvels shadow looming over Superskrull being great.

I agree the three-panel sequence ( 55:32) by Gene Colan is cinematic in the composition and the anticipation of Captin Marvel approach reminiscent of Cary Grant running from the biplane in North by Northwest. I remember this image from years ago and Gene Colan was one of the greats his work was original and dynamic I read these issues when they first appeared, and Captain Marvel was a very sophisticated book with an elaborate plot and backstory. The character would require a talented writer to hold all the plot threads together over time and perhaps this why the character was revamped to make him more pliable for future writers. I did enjoy the Cosmic Starlin run but felt the charter dropped off with the addition of Rick Jones.

Oh yeah, I totally see the North by Northwest imagery. Cant agree more with your assessment of Captain Marvel's first run. Starlin's run is a testament to how one can change a character without retconning while being true to the work that came before. Rick Jones wasnt a bad idea but it just sucks the life out of the comic. They kept with it for far too long by splitting the comic between Marvel and a less interesting character (and one that constantly gave Marvel a hard time). Thanks for taking the time to comment!

The early issues of Captain Marvel had more word balloons and exposition in one issue than the sum total half dozen comics sold today.
@Cosmic.Comics6 жыл бұрын
Yep, pretty much. Many (not all) have less detail in the art as well.

I honestly never knew which era of Mar-Vell's career I loved more. Do I love the alien gadgeteer or the cosmic Superman?

Let Marvel crow over the Kree having the universal beam, Medic Una knows (thanks to Sentry 459's memory tapes and courtesy of Sue Storm) that earth women too have the secret of a truly ridiculous and unflattering hairdo.
