There is no oil tray, that I've seen anyway. The only options that are different are buying different filters if you are not venting outside.

So one question that I have is whether or not I need a form of extra support. I am installing this without the vent to the bottom of my cabinet, but there's a gap between the cabinet bottom and the hood. Is it okay to have that gap? To give a clearer explanation, the cabinet bottom is not the bottom most part of the cabinet as the sides extend a little down (like 0.75 inch)

You shouldn't need any additional support if you can screw into the lower part of the cabinet - the hood is really light. Also, for the gap, from what I remember you don't have to vent out through the top, however, I think you need to use carbon filters. There has to be a video out there of this setup vs. the one I did here. I hope this helps. After a few months of using this, it's awesome for the value. Works well!
