Thank you (three years later!) for making this post. I need to do the exact same changeout, and while I am sort of handy, I have never done this type of work. My, very nice, over the range microwave broke last week and I have decided that having a range hood with light is the better option overall, even though I lose a little counter space to a new counter top microwave. I am so grateful for your video as it shows me exactly what I will be doing later this week.

Thank you for your work, this helped me tremendously , I was skeptical about it doing my myself and was procrastinating , but this video drove the fear away. For me since distance was getting more than 30 inches between the burners and rangehood, I had to improvise with some additional wood structure between the rangehood and the existing upper cabinet. And the most difficult part for me was how to lift it to the right height later used a big 6 inch bolt to hang it first and then slowly one side at a time swapped with right size bolt.

Nice video - thanks for sharing ! Waiting for my PS18 this week. In one of the steps for the screws that would hold the hood, those are slide on holes. Perhaps you could have screw to the wood and simply slide on. I suppose you still have to open the hood to tighten it, but at least u don't need that long drill extension. Great job - I have to do the same exact job too. Takeout my old microwave and put in the hood.
@diypotentials4 жыл бұрын
You are correct. Those are slide holes. I didn't trust my measurements, so screwing them on directly was a better option for me and for accuracy. Also depending on your under cabinet set up, you might have to drill another hole for the power cord. Good luck on the install this week. Thanks and take care...

Nice video. Thank you for posting Things I would do differently. 1. Remove cabinet doors. 2. Use the default round duct work into the hood. It's cheap and easy to cut. 3. If you stick with the square adapter. Disconnect it from the round tube and install and seal it to the hood. Then install hood. Easier to work with this way. Cheers

Hi, very good video. at 12:25 you show the duct pieces that attach to the top of the unit and then connect to the wall duct. Is the duct an 8" duct ? The wall duct looked smaller at 6" ? So does the fact that the ducting narrows to 6" reduce the maximum of 900 CFM ? Thank You :)

Hi! I am wondering what is your thought on this range hood? As a fellow Asian who does a bit of stir-frying, and frying in general, do you think this range hood is good enough to keep the smell out of the house?
@diypotentials3 жыл бұрын
Hi Bill, based on my experience with it so far, it does a good job removing the cooking aroma. It has 6 different suction levels, for my stir fry, I use only up to level 4. Level 5 and 6 can remove even more aroma but it does get a bit louder at each level. Overall, I’m satisfied with the purchase. It does look really good in my kitchen. Thanks for asking. Good luck with your decision!

Hi There , Nice Video . I got my PS-18 yesterday and i'm struggling with the install. Thought i could use some advice. 1) My undercabinet is recessed and the bottom is like 1/2 an inch thick ( or may be less ) . I'm worried if that cabinet board is going to to hold the wieght. 2) Did you use some reinforcement between the range hood and the cabinet board. 3) The power cord and the drill hole are so close on the right side . How did you get around that.
@diypotentials4 жыл бұрын
Hello, if the weight of the over the range microwave oven that was there before is more or approximately the same as the PS-18, then the board should be able to hold. If not, check if the board is solid and sturdy. Personally, I would feel okay with the install, mainly because the weight of the PS-18 will be distributed by 4 screws. If the board is flimsy, I would reinforce it with another 1/2 inch board or some other methods. My cabinet bottom board is 1 inch thick. The power cord situation is a bit of an issue because it is so close to the screw hole. Depending on your current cabinet set up, you might be able to drill another hole for it without interfering with the screw hole. For me I decided not make another hole for the power cord. Because of that, the rear right corner of the range is slightly lower than the rest. However, because it is situated in the rear, it is not noticeable. Thanks for sharing. Go luck with the install. Let me know how it went. Take care…

Did you have to add wood blocks to the underside of the cabinet bottom to fill in the gap of the recessed bottom or was it already flush with the bottom of the cabinet face?
