@@stuartd9741 Past magnetic field strengths and orientations can be determined from metamorphic rocks known to have solidified from volcanic lava at a given time (which can be determined by other means). Molten rock cannot hold a magnetic field because magnetism in such materials is wiped out by extreme heat, but when it cools enough, such rock will remagnetize according to the magnetic field in place at that time.

I was a surveyor in the Far North of Canada 50 years ago. We always used True North for our computations. True North is the North Pole that is on our maps. In my 30 years of surveying, True North Pole and Magnetic North Pole separated very rapidly. There was a time that True North and Magnetic North were the same. All mapping of the world uses True North. Of course just a tiny little bit is a lot to a surveyor. Though we could easily see the difference every year. Occasionally we would have no choice than to use compasses to determine our location, though we would have to adjust our equations to compensate for the difference between True North and Magnetic North.

@@Dennis-d1p Oh it was taking place before I started surveying. There was never a time the poles aligned when I surveyed - though there was a time perhaps a hundred years before that that they did. Though every year the amount of separation increased in speed. I never surveyed where my compass pointed to True North. Right now it is separating at a very fast rate compared to 50 years ago. It's going over 30 miles a year. It was probably 2 miles a year when I started surveying. It may flip. It has to eventually. When it does, it will probably be instantaneous Who knows what will happen. Though surveyors will always have True North no matter what. The maps won't change.

The upcoming magnetic flip, also known as a geomagnetic reversal, refers to the phenomenon where the Earth's magnetic poles-currently located near the North and South Poles-reverse their positions. This event, which has occurred many times throughout Earth's history, is of significant interest to both scientists and the general public due to its potential impacts on Earth’s environment and technological systems. During a geomagnetic reversal, the Earth's magnetic field weakens and reorganizes itself. The process typically takes thousands to millions of years, and there is no definitive way to predict exactly when it will happen. While a magnetic flip has not been observed in human history, evidence from geological records suggests that such reversals have occurred at irregular intervals throughout the planet's history. Below's what might happen during and after a magnetic flip: 1. Weakened Magnetic Field: The Earth’s magnetic field, which currently protects the planet from harmful solar and cosmic radiation, could weaken during the reversal. This could lead to increased exposure to radiation, which might have an impact on the Earth's atmosphere, climate, and living organisms. The magnetic field would not disappear entirely, but its strength would likely diminish during the transition. 2. Impact on Satellites and Space Weather: With the weakening of the magnetic field, satellites and spacecraft would be more vulnerable to the effects of solar radiation and cosmic rays. This could lead to damage to communication systems, GPS, and other satellite-based technologies. Increased radiation could also be hazardous to astronauts and space missions. However, these effects would be gradual, and technological systems could be developed to mitigate the risks. 3. Disruption of Migratory Patterns: Many animals, including birds, sea turtles, and certain species of fish, rely on Earth's magnetic field for navigation during migrations. A change in the magnetic field could confuse these animals and disrupt their migratory behavior. However, animals might also adapt over time, as their ability to detect magnetic fields is not solely reliant on the Earth’s global magnetic field. 4. Potential Climate and Weather Changes: While a magnetic field reversal itself might not directly cause dramatic changes in the Earth's climate, a weakened magnetic field could affect atmospheric processes. The Earth's atmosphere acts as a shield against solar radiation, so a weakened magnetic field could result in increased exposure to the sun’s radiation, potentially impacting weather patterns or contributing to climate shifts. However, this connection is still a topic of ongoing research, and scientists are unsure how significant these effects might be. 5. No Immediate Threat to Life: Despite the dramatic nature of a magnetic flip, it is unlikely to cause an immediate or catastrophic impact on life on Earth. The reversal process is slow and happens over long periods of time. Life on Earth has already survived numerous geomagnetic flips throughout geological history, and many species continue to thrive today. However, there may be gradual changes that would require adaptation over time. 6. Technological and Human Impact: In modern society, where many systems depend on satellites, GPS, and electronic communication, the magnetic field plays an important role in protecting these technologies. A geomagnetic flip could increase the risk of disruptions in these systems. However, researchers are exploring ways to better protect electronic infrastructure from potential radiation exposure and solar storms. In conclusion, while the upcoming magnetic flip is a natural and inevitable part of Earth's geological processes, the effects on our planet and its inhabitants are still not fully understood. It is clear that the magnetic reversal will not be an immediate or apocalyptic event, but it could have significant impacts on technology, wildlife, and atmospheric conditions. As research into geomagnetic reversals continues, scientists are working to develop ways to mitigate potential disruptions and better prepare for the long-term changes that may accompany this event.

@tunneloflight
@tunneloflight 12 күн бұрын
Not quite. Based on unexpected results in supercomputer modeling it doesn't work like you describe. Instead, the field declines to a point, the pole changes to a multi-polar form with several new poles popping up, then reforming in the opposite polarity and rebuilds as fast as it declined. Magnetic fields frozen in crystalline magma as it solidified records incredibly rapid shifting as the pole reverses. During the shift magnetic navigation is useless. The impacts on satellites are unknown, and are impacted by the rapidly shifting magnetic fields and their impacts on the craft, by tremendous current fluxes, by increased solar wind battling against the magnetic fields, rotational inertia impacted by these, and more. At least for a time, flying would be only by celestial and terrestrial and not magnetic navigation. Due to the complexity of the shift and the design of systems and their reliance on compass direction, few aircraft will be flying. But then too, before 2035 the Kessler cascade caused by the launching of 11 constellations of space junk will destroy all spacecraft in LEO and MEO and deny us access to space for a millennia plus. If the magnetic occurs before then, it might provide the added bit of chaos to cause the cascade. But the cascade is now inevitable anyway. The cascade in term will crash the world economies, destroy most communications, eliminate GPS, and cause other havoc. Within a decade we lose the last of the geosynchronous satellites to old age, and the space age goes dark. All before 2050.

@@finn6988 The physical poles won’t reverse but they can change suddenly.. The rotation of the earth is “centered” about its mass. Its mass can shift, like with changes in ocean levels or ice mass. Then the physical poles will do a correction and the earth will suddenly rotate to rebalance itself. This correction will occur in over a few hours, which will have a devastating effect on objects on its surface, as the surface will suddenly change direction at high speed. Guess what happens then.

I spoke about this in the 1960s at school . My science teacher could not imagine the possible, consequences . It's to do with the central core within the earth. Because in the centre of the earth there is a connected. N , and S, at extremities then you have opposite N and S but in the core is the answer , aside from outside influences. From other gravity and polar forks of energy it's to do with intergalactic fields too .

I'm 64 and I'm relieved that most of the major changes to earth will take effect after I'm gone. The collapse of the AMOC; The melting of the ice sheets and corresponding sea level rise; The weakening of our Magnetic field, letting more sun flares, solar winds and CMEs hit earth with greater force; The Pole Shift and Magnetic Excursion. All take time. I hope to live another 40 years, and although I am a Prepper, I concern myself more with immediate threats. Fire in my building accidentally caused by another tenant; Taking precautions against Wildfire smoke, which Alberta both creates and endures every summer now; And, I prepare for intermittent Grid Down occurrences. But, I believe the worst of it won't happen in my lifetime. So I won't have to see my grandchildren suffer. 🇨🇦

To clarify, the Earth's poles would flip. At that second the Northern pole would shift 90 degrees off it's elliptical axis. The earth would technically stop spinning for about 7 days, but the environment around us continues on at 1200 miles an hour. An unfathomably high wave travels at 1200mph around the globe. So by definition of Extinction level event, nothing survives. This video is factually incorrect. Many published scientific documents have covered this topic in depth.

Is that particular region between South America and Africa that's weakening be at a degree that would be sitting on the pressure of our Axis? If a line was drawn through it, let's say, our globe was sitting on a table. Would this weak spot be located contingent to the angle of the tilt of the Earth? That is, is it in an area that if it were spinning on the end of your finger plus, being at the correct angle of tilt, would that be the area which would be under pressure applied to/by the tip of your finger representing friction? Would this also be the angle where the stress cracking or discovered for each and every area where Pole shift has been detected from?

It is because the core will try to align with the suns magnetic field and friction will try to align it with the rotation of the rest of the earth (as you get deeper the solid core is suspended within higher density molten metal). The difference will generate oscillations in alignment, causing the poles to weaken and wander over the earth, especially problematic when the wandering poles are over populated regions, especially cities. It might not fully flip just wander around a bit before aligning again through friction.
