For anyone watching this video now.. A good app to use to plan cosplay, and it's called Cosplanner. You can make a separate list of things you need to make, or things you need to buy. You can also make a list of tags, add refrence photos, tasks, and conventions your going to as that character. It's definitely helping meach plan out my Murdoc Niccals (Gorillaz) and Mettaton (Undertale) cosplay :3

I'm starting to actually go to conventions with my cosplays now after years of just dressing up in my room and I'm so nervous to go to my first one. I know cosplaying is all about fun but I'm just worried people will make fun of or hate on my cosplay and that's not something I want with something I've spent weeks and months on. I hope it turns out okay

My first cosplay was Konata Izumi from lucky star. I didn't know how to sew. I didn't know how much fabric was needed. Luckily my friends were cosplaying with me and one of them knew sewing stuff. We did pretty well! We pleated skirts... which none of us had done before. That was fun. One mistake we made, we bought wigs from Halloween stores. ( except one of us just died their hair )

I am 13 almost 14 in April! You could definitely cosplay but one issue is money!! You can't get a job so how are you going to earn money? Well you could babysit or do chores around the house and get an allowance. But since my family does not have that much money I have to wait for Christmas and my birthday to get money and save along the year. I want to cosplay hinata Shouyou from haikyuu!! And I will have to buy the costume because I want it in a jersey material. I am trying to find an alternative! Anyways yes you can cosplay!

Hey! As a fellow young cosplayer I can understand how you might feel. There is no "age limit" to cosplaying so you go! And lots of the older peeps think it's cool that such a young person is cosplaying! I love cosplaying as Ciel since I'm so short! >~< black butler is the best XD

FeministGirlGang I suggest if you are going to do full on body painting, don't paint every part of your body. You can find colored tights at welovecolors and find an armsck tutorial so you don't have to put makeup on your arms to. You can look up since i already gave a bit more detailed explanations about types of body painting. If you have more questions search it up or feel free to ask.

Find a really good sealant. You don't want the paint rubbing off everywhere. Even then, try to paint as less as possible, as it will be much easier on you and you won't have to seal your entire body

My top 3 stores if I have to buy cosplay clothing to modify: Old Navy, Walmart, Target. They all have decent selection of very affordable "nonspecific" clothing both in-store and online, because sometimes, it's hard to find just a regular pair of gray pants. I usually sew everything myself, but sometimes I just know that buying pre-made items will save me time and money, and give me more time to focus on other aspects of the costume. My Wirt cosplay is one of my best, and while the hat and cape are handmade, I lucked out and found the shirt and pants from Old Navy (all I had to do was change the buttons), and the PERFECT shoes from Walmart!

So, I'm a bit apprehensive about cosplaying (heck, I'm scared to even go to a Convention) because one day when my sister came home for a visit, we were watching the news and they had covered SacAnime, and both my sister and my brother just shook their heads and said, "What total nerds." Ever since then, I've been scared to even talk about anime or even think about cosplaying. I mean, calling me a nerd is totally different than calling what I love nerdy. Am I making sense? I don't know... I know I should ignore them, but it's my family! They're like the most influential people around! It's dumb, I know. But, still...
@pancakemuffinberry21

Going to a convention and cosplaying is a lot of fun! I went to my first convention last weekend (I dressed as a Pokemon breeder from Ruby and Sapphire) and it was great! How you feel isnt dumb at all because i've felt put down before because of what people said, heck my sister still calls me a nerd and a geek lol. But later on as I got older, I learned that we all like different things and not everyone is going to agree with what you like. But there are a lot of people that do like what you do! Especially when you go to a convention. And anime is one of the coolest things to like imo :) People think that being nerdy is such a bad thing, but it really isnt. It's a hobby just like anything else people enjoy. I really hope you get to go to a convention someday :) and dont be afraid to be you!
@xxnadeshikoxx
@xxnadeshikoxx 10 жыл бұрын
I agree with pancakemuffinberry21. Don't be afraid to be you. Follow your passions. You'll be happier in the long run. I don't get offended or ashamed when and if people call me nerd, geek, dork, or whatever. It's who I am and if they don't accept that then it's their problem, lol. Going to cons I see so many people with so much passion for so many different things. I don't see such passion in the people who make fun of con goers.

If they really have a problem with you dressing up and going to a convention, then we have a slightly bigger problem than being embarassed. Anyways, don't be afraid to be yourself. When you go to a convention you realize that everyone there is as equally nerdy as you, and you make A LOT of friends with very similar interests. Never, I mean Never be afraid to be you. They might chortle and they might shake their heads, but that's because they simply don't understand. My mom laughs a bit every time I got to a convention, and then tells me to be careful, I just laugh and go on with my day. Just remember, it's all in good fun. :3

I've had the same problem myself (I have long and incredibly thick hair), and what I did was tie it into a really lose ponytail (so the band itself doesn't create much of a bump) and then simply folding it upwards and onto the top of my head. You can then either pin it or just use your wig cap and its elastic will automatically keep your ponytail in place. Then just stick and left-over strands under there and put on the wig (: you won't get rid of the bump completely, but it's less visible (:

Geek week has just recently past, and it has made my inner nerd realize just how much it wants to try cosplaying. The problem is, where I live, there are literally no conventions going on within the next six years. Also, my family doesn't quiet realize how much of a nerd I am. I've tried to tell them about it, but they are totally clueless and start looking at me like I came from Mars. What should I do?

I like this. Very informational. I followed your advice (w/o even knowing it) of the TONS of research pix and tutorials for what I was wanting to do. The latest (and most recent) cosplay I did involved a fairly elaborite glove/gauntlet thing w/ wings. It came out AWESOME! Also, tip. Don't be afraid to variant your tutorial. If a certain thing(material/whatever) don't be afraid to alter it slightly. XP: the Gauntlet thing I mentioned above. I saw many people use stuff like acrylic or some sort of "Sculpty" or something similar. I thought that (also being very expensive) that for me it would be to heavy to wear. So I used art foam (like the little kids use for their crafts and stuff). It was light and looked right. Tip2: Realize your time/fundage/talents as well. Ask if you need help with certain aspects. Realize how much time you have before the particular convention you wish to wear that particular cosplay at. Don't be afraid to substitute "lower cost" fabric or other materials for what you need. Yes, the Red Velvet fabric would look amazing on your costume, but is it really cost effective? And couldn't the lower cost fabric look just as good? Tip3: Maybe video or take pictures of your cosplay progress. That is that if you want to revisit and improve a cosplay, you can see how/where/what you did. Kinda to like refamiliarize yourself with the process. This could also help you if you've become a cosplay vet, and want to do over or revise an old favorite costume. hope these are usefull. good luck!

For wings, just as a general rule... I like to get either metal clothes hangers or just a spool of wire... and form it into the basic outline of the wings... then take nylons (either bought or dyed the color you need) and stretch them over the outline... after that, you just make either arm loops... or sew it directly to the costume

I'm dressing up at Marceline from Adventure Time for Halloween but I'm going in a more cosplay direction with it. It will be my 1st cosplay & I'm SO excited. Most of my stuff was bought (wig, face paint, pointed ears, & fangs), some was thrift store (2 different tops), some I already owned (jeans & boots), & her axe bass I'm making out of wood. :) My hair is actually already black like hers, but since I've recently cut it its no longer as long, so I went with a cosplay wig for accuracy. :)

Hey, thanks for all the great tutorial videos! I just started watching them today, cause me and my best friend are currently planning my first cosplay costume ever and so far she hasn't done much cosplaying either. It helps a lot to hear from someone with your experience. ^^ Since my friend is into Hetalia an will probably visit her next event as Russia, she had the idea that i could play Ukraine. her Outfit happens to be pretty easy, I basically had most of the clothes at home and we already found a wig that fits really well. I'm very excited atm and looking into additional stuff like make up and contact lenses, but for my first time I'll definitely keep it simple. Not sure if I will continue cosplaying, but it's definitely fun so far. ; D

Passionag22, have you thought about an empty 2 litter cola bottle painted with the color you need? If it might work, but the bottom is odd,you can fill the gaps with clay. Hope that might help some....I've done that for a steampunk costume before and it worked alright. If you have a spare part for a water gun (with the barrels) you can use the barrels and paint them like oxygen tanks.

Hey there! I'm not that good at sewing so I buy all of costumes online. I don't consider it to be cheating, but I guess I can see where they could be coming from. However, I wouldn't worry about it too much, cosplay is about having fun. If you'd like, you could buy the costumes for now but look up/attend lessons on sewing.

Planning a Sou Hiyori (Your Turn To Die/Kimi Ga Shine) cosplay for my first one, and I’m likely going to buy all my basic accessories, and maybe add the scarf design. The only wig I found in the exact right color is a Rockstar boy cut, but on the site and after research, it could be extremely hit or miss. It was hard for me, but I'm sure you'll be able to do it C: And cosplay is not weird! - others may think it is weird, but they'll be jealous when they see you in your cosplay!

You guys can always start with something similar to what you're leading up to. like me working towards batman, i started with the damian wayne batsuit cause its WAY much easier than trying to work on the actual bruce wayne version.

Going to try and do Bolin from Legend of Korra for my first and hope I have it ready by October for Halloween and a local con a few hours north from where I am. I might also try a dieselpunk mafia ensemble for Steampunk Expo here in Salt Lake may be a little sooner than I can produce my first costume.

No it's fine to buy stuff, you can probably find a lot of Miku outfits & wigs from eBay and other places online, as long as you don't plan on entering any contests just walking about a con in a bought costume is pretty normal ^^

This year i'm going to Comic Con in Belfast and it will be my first ever con & first ever time cosplaying, but it's something i've always wanted to do. I've never even made anything or sewn before in my life...I'm going to have to learn! Picking a character is so difficult...It has to be perfect xO I think i'm going to go as Utstsutsu from Gatchman Crowds though.

I am going to cosplay as Pinkie Pie from My Little Pony. But, I have glasses and I don't fancy the idea of putting things in my eye. Is it okay to wear glasses with cosplay?

I am told when I cosplay at a con i should wear my glasses and then for pictures take them off so you could be more like the character:) I am just like you I hate things near my eyes I just can't handle it 😊

Cosmic Venom Hello, i know im a bit late, but i also wear glasses, and yes it's okay to cosplay with glasses! if you don't want them in pictures or personally don't think they'd look good,keep your glasses case with you, and put your glasses away when taking pictures. And always keep a check on where your glasses are, rather you lended them to a friend for a moment to hold, or put them down in their case. It's very wise to simply carry a bag of some sort with you, [preferably a small one] and stick your glasses in there when you're not using them.

If you're starting on cosplaying and this will be the first time you're using a sewing machine, a simple (very little to no armor) skyrim cosplay is perfect, because since it's around the 800 era, you don't have to be neat with the sewing or sew in straight lines much. Actually, the messier and more patched up, the better (especially if you're a mage or a thief or a warrior - then you can make armor and weapons out of cardboard or cereal boxes).
