Since so many of you asked, here is a new LED video tutorial!
I kept it very easy, mainly to show you how simple it is to install some fancy lights!
In my full book you’ll find full step-by-step instructions for larger circuits, instructions for making gemstones, making of different projects and schematics for anything you want to build. I even did the math for you! ☺
I’ve used regular blue 3V LEDs, 2032 button cell batteries (3V) and wires with 2x 0.14mm2. With one LED the battery lasts for around 11 hours, so perfect for a convention day!
Products used:
Soldering Iron: amzn.to/2IhJpV8
Slide switch: amzn.to/388tDHQ
Helping Hand: amzn.to/38rmReX
Breadboard: amzn.to/2P3Mefn
Breadboard jumper wires: amzn.to/35TBGGl

How much does that LED last with the most basic battery?
@KamuiCosplay
@KamuiCosplay 7 жыл бұрын
In my LED book I have calculated the most basic combination but for a standard three 3V LEDs plus a 9V block battery its 27.5h.
@AndrewBlack343
@AndrewBlack343 3 жыл бұрын
If by "most basic battery" you mean just the LED across a button cell then that's still a difficult question to answer. There are different sizes of button cell. The different colours of LED require different Voltages to operate and as the battery runs down the LED will slowly become dimmer so it's subjective when the battery is 'done'. As the batteries aren't very expensive it's probably worth just trying one to see.

A few tips for you, to help the soldering of the wires go smoother and create a stronger joint, it helps to tin the wire first. this is simply applying solder to it before soldering to the led. To help with the protection of joints, slip on heat shrink to the wire BEFORE soldering. After the soldering is done simply slide the heat shrink up over the joint and apply heat with a open flame for a short period. Just some helpful info for you.

I did cringe when you connected the LEDs without a resistor. But I can't deny that it seemed to work for you. You're maybe relying on the internal resistance of the coin cell to limit the current. Normally you need a resistor to stop the LED burning out, because LEDs are very sensitive to small changes in voltage. R = (Vbat - Vled)/Current.

That's interresting. I'm looking up LED stuff to try and make a simple and easy to swap tissue wrap with glowing runes on it, to wrap around weapons for LARP. Not easy to find something to make it portable and safe. (since I can't hide the battery easily inside. At least I don't think a thin and small battery like a watch one would be enough to light it up.)

very cool video. I got an question I am trying something I read in you're book of LED basics. page 32 look at my orb my orb is amazing. I have sanded the inside only because I want the outside to stay reflective.alltough not fully sure about that. anyway. when painted and with the lights on it realy shows me the strokes of the paint brush making it look very ugly. is there anyway on how to prevent this? do I need to sand it more?

One thing though: in the other props you did use 9v batteries. It's a bit hard for me as I also used one in my own, but there was a problem: I needed to use resistors so the diodes wouldn't burn out, but after that three LED was the max. four LED caused all of them to emit half the light and another one caused no light at all. Could you do a more advanced one with just how to use different batteries? It would be very helpful.
