Chihuahua, Mexico, more of a homestead situation. I have my chickens in a battery style setup with linking doors between coops. This allows me to have chickens with different ages... usually one month apart where we have a constant supply of meat from young roosters. This meat makes up for the hens to start laying. Since the chickens are in separate cells with barriers to stop dropping mixing, rather than one large enclosure, we spend zero money on medication. We collect eggs and feed from the the outside hatches. Our most valuable resource is the deep mulch bedding used as the base for compost production. We use this compost as the base for a no-till market garden. Our chickens eat 60% of what is grown in the garden including tree leaves and grass. I reduce feed costs by fermenting rooster mix ( doubles the volume) and then mixing it with egg layer mix. I started this method to stop broilers getting sour crop. I have some moveable chicken tractors for summer. My biggest issue is having protein sources...I need to get into fly larva and fish farming to free myself completely of commercial feed. Having all the same age birds is efficient but not resilient. The moment that the chick supply halts, your system tends to fold.

Very interesting! I have a pasture egg business in California and just raised 1000 hens for laying. 1000 birds cost me in feed and other supplies around 8,000 USD to raise tell laying at around 20 weeks. How much revenue do you expect to make from your 2000 birds by selling eggs over their life span? Great work, love your channel! I have learned so much.

Hie if it costs you $8000 USD for a 1000 hens up to 20 weeks .then 2000 hens will be $16000 USD. It's quite a huge bill as compared to his.
