@@leeseoul5735 I wouldn't try it. Millipedes don't move very fast so they create a toxin to keep most critters from munching on them. In Western Washington we have really pretty almond-scented millipedes, black with yellow dots above each set of legs. The reason they smell like almonds? Their other name is cyanide millipedes. You might get a buzz or feel drunk, or you might feel something far worse.

Grrrrrrrrrr... this is one of my pet peeves- fluorescing under UV light means that something produces VISIBLE light. You do not need to be able to see UV to see fluorescence. In other words, the facts that chameleons have some UV-fluorescing bits, and that they are able to see in the UV does not mean that they use that UV-sensing ability to see the fluorescence. WE can see the fluorescence. If the fluorescing bits look any different to chameleons than they look to us, it is in that they look LESS conspicuous. Fluorescence ABSORBS UV light and reemits it as visible light, so in the UV fluorescent things look a bit darker. Similarly, no- fluorescence almost certainly does not play a role in sexual selection (in parrots, or scorpions, or anything else), except to make some (visible light) colors slightly brighter during the day. Non-human animals have not invented a way to produce UV light, so fluorescent animals look exactly the same to other animals as they look to us. In the day the fluorescence is mostly washed out and you don't notice it because everything else is so bright, and at night there's not enough (UV) light to make anything fluoresce... so you don't notice it either.
@keriezy
@keriezy 5 жыл бұрын
Yes and no. From my understanding some animals can "see" colors we can't. We see because of cones and rods. Not all animals have the same cone to rod ratio as us.
@sthngo
@sthngo 5 жыл бұрын
@@keriezy Thats not the argument he was making tl;dr Flourenscence turns incoming UV light into visible light, so you can only see flourescent bits in the visible spectrum. They do not reflect UV, they turn it into visible light. Thats why you can see it under UV light. That doesn't make it glow in UV, bc thats just not what that does

Scishow literally did a video on this a few days ago!
@davidonfim2381
@davidonfim2381 5 жыл бұрын
@@keriezy See sthngo's reply, it's spot on. In addition to that though, the cone to rod ratio has nothing to do with seeing different colors. Cones allow you to see color and fine details, rods allow you to see the amount of light (ie. to see in black and white) but with less detail, and the ratio between them just determines how well an animal can see during the day vs. night. Animals who can see colors we can't can do so because they have completely different cones. Humans as a species have three types of cones that detect three spectra of light, while other animals have four or more types of cones which allow them to see into the UV or whatnot.
@herranton
@herranton 5 жыл бұрын
@@davidonfim2381 Re op point 2:If you have UV cones then you can see reflected UV light. _Fluorescing is a different phenomenon entirely._ If you had UV cones, you would just see UV things as a different color, it wouldn't be all lit up. There is a difference between something that reflects UV and something that absorbs and then re-emits a photon. Your statement that animals that can see UV see things the same as we do because of the fact that only a small amount of solar radiation is UV doesn't take into account that they may be more sensitive to UV light. Bees, for instance, don't have red receptors, so that part of the spectrum is totally invisible to them, which would boost their sensitivity to UV, as it isn't competing with other colors. Or, if parrots were to have an abnormally high amount of UV cones to RGB cones, they could certainly be able to see the _reflected_ UV light in broad sunlight. Heck, even some human women are tetrachomatic, though not in UV. Their perception of color between green and red is significantly different (or rather, more sensitive to shades) than the rest of us.

I think elderly people and nurses can also be hard to get a finger print from. With elderly people, it’s because they’ve been alive so long and I guess the cells just wear off eventually. And with the nurses, it’s because they wash their hands so much so the finger printers “rub off” essentially.

I clean for a living and if I get comet, ajax, or other bleach things on my fingers the pad skin peels and my phone will not recognize my prints for a week or two. Its crazy. I figured it out after it happened the third time. Of course chemicals are not really made for skin, but I'm talking just touching the stuff not necessarily cleaning without gloves (which I don't do, but holes happen).

When Sam talked about hermit crabs taking up homes in him I thought he was referring to the character from 'Oathbringer' from 'The Stormlight Archive' by Brandon Sanderson. The man is made up of cremlins, crab-like creatures native to the planet. Think a bunch of hive-mind creatures working together to create a human-sized person.

You'll just said that it was about colour and light. Yet you both picked the other 2 😂 😂 😂 😂

This is a bit of a tricky question cause oxygen does become metallic under intense pressure just... 96 GPa, instead of the 10 GPa it takes to becomes the epsilon oxygen the question mentioned. Hydrogen becomes metallic at 450 GPa, which is likely what takes place at the center of Jupiter!
