the zooxanthellae that coral have a symbiotic relationship with are actually dinoflagellates, not algae. However, dinoflagellates and brown algae are both chromalveolates, so perhaps that's where the confusion came from. Not all single celled photosynthetic organisms in the ocean are algae. In fact, most of them aren't!

Actually the term blue moon originally meant the third full moon in a season with four. And blue came from an old English word for betrayer. Then a magazine messed up and basically created the current definition of second full moon in a month and it's really interesting and would actually totally make a great scishow episode
