I watched Dave Ramsay’s baby step video last week. I’ve watched it before. But something clicked inside of me and I knew I had to do it. I only have a small mortgage but have no money for house repairs. I applied for a job and have an interview this week. I’m retired and have not been clamping down on my spending like I know I have to to save and pay off my house. But whatever clicked inside of me got me hard.

Great video. I am 26 years old and hate when people my age complain about not having enough money because we really do it to ourselves. We want a fancy new phone, a car payment, multiple subscriptions, to eat out everyday and buy expensive coffee and clothes, use credit cards and then complain when we have no money. I make $17.60 an hour here in eastern Oregon operating heavy equipment. Two months ago I was one of those young people complaining. I started driving the $800 pickup I bought in highschool, it's a real beater but it's cheap. I only drive to work, to the grocery and back home. I started making my own lunches and stopped eating out. Not only to become healthier but I saved a lot of money! I buy in cash only and have one subscription and just basic bills. I paid off two credit cards and a large personal debt. Now I have a $3800 loan left and I'm debt free and saving up as much money as I can!

What gets me is that I know three young people who shared a one-bedroom apartment because one had to move out as soon as they turned 18 and the others fled abusive homes. They NEVER complain. I live in income based housing.I get so aggravated when people spend on their wants then beg for their needs. They go out for coffee every morning but complain about how they can't afford their meds. They charge because they "deserve "to treat themselves and their children won't be responsible for the debt when they're gone.I save my credit in case my dog needs care or my car needs repaired. I live on so little. I remember you asking if we want stuff or money. If I get the urge to splurge I go to the dollar store and buy a lipstick.

It's 7yrs old, I drive 40 mins to work & 40 back, of course, & it helps for materials I need to fix up my home. Honestly tho, I'm 48 yrs old & I've never had my own car. I'm separated from a 25 yr marriage & I wanted my own car, just for me! I guess it's my "I'm free" treat to myself.😉 I bought the home for myself too, but that I bought more for my son.

Boomer here. I consistently spent 70+ percent on housing. I had to be extremely frugal. Never ate out, did starbucks, smoked, drank, went to the movies or traveled. I was a single parent who regularly went to food pantries. I worked a full time job and a part time as well as rented out a room, and rented out my driveway to people living in their RVs. Hard decisions had to be made all the time. The last thing in the budget was food. Made everything from scratch too. It was never a walk in the park as people seem to think. I got our clothes at thrift stores or free on facebook marketplace. I would pick up free garage sale leftovers and sell them on craigslist or facebook. I had to retire early due to medical reasons and my husband and I are living off one social security check and $23 a month in food stamps. Yep were going to the food bank. Yep we are super frugal. Still cooking from scratch too. I never got to "live my best life" "manifest abundance on tik tok" or any of that other crap people spend time on. Just a constant grind.

It really bothers me when young people say that 'boomers were all able to buy a house at 25, retire at 50 and have a great retirement travelling the world' or other such nonsense, because while that may be true for _some_ it's definitely not true for all. A lot of people have had, like you say, the constant grind all the way through. I salute you and your husband for doing your best. You have my utmost respect for getting on with what needed getting on with

My daughter has no debt and doesn’t buy Starbucks. She brings home 2100.00 after taxes and putting in her retirement. Yes she could rent a place for 850.00 but it would be in a bad area. Also she has a big dog and some places will not allow that. So she moved back home and is saving her money. I agree that a lot of young people live way above their means but not all young people do. My husband and I never had credit card debt and paid our house off in 15 years. We taught our kids not to buy what you can’t afford and it’s ok to do without. It’s better to save than spend.

I agree with you! One of the things it boils down to is that many people "want it all" and they want it now. There's some gratification in saving my money for the things that I want instead of putting it on credit. Also, I've found that by the time I've saved my money for the item that I thought I wanted, I really don't want it anymore and it's more important to keep my money in the bank.

^This! (or at least partly to blame). Many years ago, when raising our sons, was a time when 2 parent incomes became a thing. Sometimes necessary, sometimes not. Our kids had friends that were given everything, including expensive vacations 2x a year, new car at 16, etc. At one time, when our oldest was 15, he asked us if we could give him $100 a week cuz that’s how much his best friend was getting from his parents for spending money 😮. It was hard, but we stuck to our beliefs. Fast forward when they were in their early 20s, they each thanked us for being the parents we were. They saw some of their friends who were given everything, floundering after graduation, having a hard time being independent.

High prices for everything have severely affected my plan. I'm concerned if people who went through the 2008 financial crisis had an easier time than I am having now. The stock market is worrying me as my income has decreased, and I fear I won't have enough savings for retirement since I can't contribute as much as before.

You are absolutely right ,firstly I believe money in the bank is not money because it is bond to inflation and losses values overtime, You have to be well disciplined to achieve success and save before you spend Lastly success does not happen overnight it takes time, dedication and self discipline

It's often true that people underestimate the importance of financial advisors until they feel the negative effects of emotional decision-making. I remember a few summers ago, after a tough divorce, when I needed a boost for my struggling business. I researched and found a licensed advisor who diligently helped grow my reserves despite inflation. Consequently, my reserves increased from $275k to around $750k.

That's fascinating. How can I contact your Asset-coach as my portfolio is dwindling?

My CFA ’Jessica Lee Horst’, a renowned figure in her line of work. I recommend researching her credentials further. She has many years of experience and is a valuable resource for anyone looking to navigate the financial market.

I don't buy expensive stuff but still I get a shock when I see the prices at the grocery store. Even apples and potatoes have doubled in price. Greetings from Sweden. 🇸🇪

Yet people don't look at from the farmers view point! 😮 labor cost up,fertilizer costs up,equipment cost astronomical! Just what do you think would happen to your cost to buy it!😮 maybe you could grow your own! 😮

Great common sense video. You are spot on. By the way, love that you have footage of your dogs. They are adorable. 😊
