So, to leave let say in the middle class/ lower-middle class, if you rent it can be over $500 in rent and upper middle class over $1000. If you buy, with a fine downpayment on a non-high class area but nice residential, you'll pay around $800 monthly but you are paying toward your own apartment. In regards to heatlcare, if yo get a well paying job localy, most likely you'll get law health care through your employer , sometimes they also pay for a complementary healthcare plan, if not the casa, you pay like $1500 pesos/ US $20 extra for a better plan or extra coverage. I can say for experience that for a single person leaving alone US$2600 a month, should be enough, rent or morgage of an apartment(a house gets too expensive quickly), groceries, electricity, water, car payments, home gas is cheap and as mentioned in the video, it is a monthly expense most of the time, montly celullar plan and a high speed internet(200/300 MB, if you leave outsite Santo domingo sometimes it's difficult but you can get it).
@khaos29154 ай бұрын
Lower middle class/ not pay check to pay check used to get be good with US$1300. However, after covid it's just crazy. Don't get me wrong, US$1700 is still a priviledge salary but that will change in 1 to 2 years if things keep going like this.
@lrbolotin12278 күн бұрын
For everyone saying “this is not enough, you have to live in the worst areas, not living a life.” Let me tell you, Dominicans living in the best areas, with good cars, “living like a king,” in average make $2,000/mo (some much more, some less), and these are the people with the higher standard of living, that even by US standards you would say they live like the rich. So, you definitely CAN live comfortably on $800 a month as a couple with no children, also considering that $400 a month is a minimum wage salary in the DR, $800 is DOUBLE that. If you learn the local way of life and live like a local (which is NOT equivalent to living poorly), you can live on this budget AND still enjoy life. Knowing Spanish is also important! Not to mention that everyone enjoys life in different ways. If your idea of enjoying life involves constant spending, then you’ll struggle anywhere you go. If you want to live on perpetual vacation, you will definitely need large amounts of money to sustain your lifestyle; but if your intent is to simply live well in the DR, you can make it work. No judgment on those who need more to feel they’re living comfortably, since everyone has different tastes, but if you say that this budget is not realistic means you still don’t know the country as well as you thought you did.

I live in Santiago. Believe me, everything is expensive here like in the USA except for rent. Your will need $2500 per month just to barely enjoy life and live comfortably. I think it really depends where you live in Dominican Republic and your lifestyle. It very much depends how you want to live. Most expats that live here at a similar standard to the US will spend the same as the USA. if you want to just survive here in a rural shack then you can get by on very little money. If you like going out to restaurants and drinking alcohol, ordering quality items online, and living close to the beach with other expats it’s going to cost you a lot.

Yes, 15k is not in the District for sure... Piantini Naco as you mention would be 40k the cheapest a run down apartment up to 1500 for a 2 bedroom... super expensive and they are basing it now on the cost of land/location instead of cost of what the apartment is worth... I see no logic on this... so you could get a very nice apartment in the city center, 3 bedroom, worth the same as a one bedroom in the same location...

As you know, the medical system is not United States. It's there... They will set broken bones ok, plus other medicines banned in some countries. In general: enjoy traveling while you are young. While in your 30s, you probably don't have to think about trips to the hospital. Going to the hospital in the D.R. is 'a trip'... as they demand full payment when you are helped before release.

That’s not true at all, you can pay 220 dollars for the same apartment you would pay 800 dollars living in the downtown, if you are smart you just get an apartment 10 minutes away from the downtown so you can save 500 and still live in Santo Domingo and a nice place.

Perhaps for some people or a large family, but as seen in the video, we get along well with much less! 🙂

I don't know if you know, but 2,000 dollars are 117,227 pesos, that is a rich salary. Maybe you're not living in Dominican Republic. For you to survive as middle class you need 1,000 dollars, that is 58,613 pesos. With 80,000 pesos, that is 1,365 dollas you live very well in Dominican Republic

Yeah, there's a lot of people fronting that they got the dollars, and they don't realize that a lot of families over there, live with less than $1000 a month, very well!!@@laughifyouwant5131
