Costs of Living in the Dominican Republic for Slow Travelers and Early Retirement

Many Canadians and Americans like to visit the Dominican Republic for all kinds of reasons from short vacations to spending the entire winter here to retiring on the island full-time.
As slow travelers, Chris and I have rented an apartment in Las Terrenas on the northern side of the Dominican Republic for a month, and we've been taking short trips to other parts of the island like Santo Domingo as well. But what is the cost of living in the Dominican Republic if you're coming here as a digital nomad or retirement slow traveler? And what else should you think about before booking your travels?

The downfall is so many people from America go there that's massively inflated the price over the last few years. You have a huge population of people from the Northeast Corridor that use their fake addresses with their older relatives live off government assistance from States like Massachusetts Connecticut Rhode Island New York Pennsylvania and New Jersey and then live in Dominican Republic. The money they make the government assistance in the United States has driven the prices and what used to be upper middle-income areas of Dominican Republic up noticeably there are at least 200,000 of them doing this according to the government as it is😂

Sounds to be about 30% cheaper than life in small town Midwest. Am I wrong?

Wow, more expensive than I would've thought! And the electricity situation reminds me a lot of St. Kitts. Expensive and unreliable! The Caribbean is always beautiful though.

Yes, we had a bit of sticker shock! Especially after coming from Argentina. We understand the electricity in provided by a private company in Las Terrenas making it even more $$ than other parts of the island.

Only 30 days? Lol yeah but if you overstay your Visa they don't care at all. It's more business for them and they know it
