Today I will be sharing with you what I consider to be the cost of living in Barcelona, but very important, the cost of living in Barcelona as a student. And student is a bit generic, I know, but I will mostly be focusing or at least while preparing this video I was thinking on a university student, because this has been my experience. Also note that I will just be sharing the cost of living, not that of studying, which in other words it just means that I am not including the cost of the University, school or centre you study in. I don’t do it because, unless it is a public university, and even in that case the prices can vary a lot depending on what and where you study. So basically, if you are planing on going to Barcelona to study and are wondering how much can you expect to spend, this video is precisely made for you, and I just hope that it is useful in some way!
If you enjoyed the video please subscribe and like it so that more people can see it!

Hi Robert! Gracias for such informative video! Can you suggest some website to look for accomodations in BCN? Or should an international student look for it physically when they are in BCN? I will be coming to Barcelona in the next January hopefully for my studies. And any area would you suggest to stay in BCN. Thanks again! Keep up the good work.

Hi, I would recommend that you try to find something online a few days before going to the city but that you actually go in person to check out the place. If it is just for 1 month maybe not, but if you are planing on staying there permanently, yes. On the websites as Lali said you can find them in the comment of anguluri kavya. I would not recommend that you stay in the Gothic quarter, Raval or Poblesec. The best areas are Eixample, Sants or Les Corts, anywhere else it is okay

Hello Robert, thanks for sharing this info! May I ask how much approx. does it cost to get an appropriate medical insurance in BCN for students?
@robertalcaniz
@robertalcaniz 2 жыл бұрын
Hi, I personally pay around 50€/month for a private health insurance that covers for pretty much everything (although I have some special rates). I think that you can expect to pay anywhere from 45-70€/month but you should check with each insurer because they have different rates offering different levels of medical coverage. Here you have a few links with info on the topic: www.olelanguages.com/barcelona-medical-insurance.html studentcenter.iedbarcelona.org/en/formalities/healthcare/

Thanks Robert, your infos are really helpful. But, what about part-time jobs? I know Barcelona is the second biggest city in Spain which means job opportunities are higher, but how much can you earn from it and does it helps you to afford theses living expenses?
@laligarcia3137
@laligarcia3137 3 жыл бұрын
Unemployement rates are quite high in Spain at the moment and the tourism industry is trying to recover from the pandemic. Speaking Spanish and having some qualifications or specific skills will help a lot getting a good paid part time job.

@robertalcaniz
@robertalcaniz 3 жыл бұрын
Hi Ashraf, I think that @Lali already clarified it, but just to add a bit, from a part time job you cannot expect to earn a lot. Just think that what most people earn net working full time in Spain ranges from 1.100-1.500€/month (of course you can earn a lot more and also less). If you work part time (20h/week) you can expect to earn 50% of that or even a bit less (depending on the company). In terms of paying living expenses, it can help you, but it will be hard to cover them all just with a part time job.

Hi, Roberto. What a great video, I was just looking for the exact costs to live cause I think is one of the most important things before checking something else about a country. Although, I would like to ask you about the health insurance cause now I live in Portugal and I have a health insurance from here but I don’t know if I’m gonna need another one for Spain. If it doesn’t work in Spain please could you tell me the price for a health insurance there?
@robertalcaniz
@robertalcaniz 11 күн бұрын
Hi :) Sorry for the delayed reply. Health insurances in Spain can range in costs from 30€ (if you take very basic plans which don't cover much) up to around 100€. For about 70€ you can already have a pretty good plan.

Hello Robert. Great video. Quick question: If I am exactly 25 years old , can I get The T-Jove ticket or not?Also is 700 euros a reasonable budget per month?
@laligarcia3137
@laligarcia3137 2 жыл бұрын
I just check the official web: www.atm.cat/web/en/discounted-fares.php The use of the T-jove transport card is upheld throughout the validity of the card, even if the user has turned 25 during such period, as long as documentation is provided as proof that the user was under age 25 when the card was purchased and at the time of its first use.
@robertalcaniz
@robertalcaniz 2 жыл бұрын
On the T-Jove ticket, @Lali already replied. With regard to the budget, I personally could live with that amount, I wouldn' be able to save much money, but I could live. I'd probably rent a room for 300-350€ month and then food and transport would probably get me slightly above the 500€ mark. Afterwards if you don't buy lots of extra things and keep your leisure expenses low, it shouldn't be a problem to stay within the budget.

One of the cheapest operators in Spain is Symio www.simyo.es/ . I like it because you can customize and pay for what you want. Otherwise there are others like Movistar, Vodafone or Orange. Probably the best of all is Movistar but it is usually also the most expensive. So maybe just check what the different ones offer, but you should be good with any of them (not much of a difference really)

Hi Ana, yes, you can buy the T-Jove but you need to make sure that you buy the card for 3 Zones as Mataro is a bit far away from BCN, Here you can find the map with the tariffs: www.tmb.cat/es/tarifas-metro-bus-barcelona/sencillos-e-integrados/mapa-zonas The price for the T-jove of 3 zones is of 147,55 € (www.tmb.cat/es/tarifas-metro-bus-barcelona/sencillos-e-integrados/t-jove)

which language is majorly spoken in Barcelona? Catalan or Spanish? In terms of securing an internship or Job which language is given preference?
@laligarcia3137
@laligarcia3137 3 жыл бұрын
Both languages are spoken and locals understand and speak both of them. People is used to change from one to the other according to the language spoken by the persone we are speaking to. When applying for jobs or internships, Spanish is an absolute must, specially for those ones offered to international students/workers. If you apply for a job/Internship in government departments, though, Catalan will be required.
@robertalcaniz

I wouldn't have explained it better than @Lali did. Just a quick addition, which is that there are also some companies hiring only English speakers given how international Barcelona is. So even if you don't speak Spanish nor Catalan, you can still find jobs.

Hi, if they pay you back then I guess that as long as you have a valid rent contract then you should be fine. The safest way to go about this is to only rent an apartment that is rented through a real estate agency. You will have to pay the fee to the agency but at least you will make sure that everything is legally fine (and potentially also help you with getting the reimbursement if applicable)
