For reference to here in the San Francisco Bay Area, I'm looking at renting a room in someone's house for around $1,200 a month. The room also functions as the house's laundry room, and this is considered a great deal in the neighborhood.

Ive been looking at South East Asian cities to potentially live & build a life in. Unlike most Ive been looking for places with low nightlife (indicator of low degeneracy) and a calm atmosphere yet abundant with nature, while not being too rural. Its a very Goldilocks filter. Thanks for the questions Zhiznhi! 1. Vietnam is extremely safe with almost no violent crime. 2. Da Nang summers can reach ~35 degrees. The rainiest months are October and November, the majority of the rest of the year is dry 3. Utility is charged based on usage - but for a 1bedroom apartment on average you are looking at between $50-150 a month 4. Yes, tourist visa runs are the most common 5. Except for the rainy and stormy days, you can swim and sunbathe all year round! Hope these help!

I’ve been to Danang for Christmas 23 and it was my favourite city in Vietnam It’s very pretty and the people are super nice. Loved both the old town and the beach area It’s less crowded than HMC and calm too. Nice video and great information Let’s hope Danang does not turn out like Portugual where half of UK flooded the place and killed it for the locals

There should be information about how to maintain a visa. If you have to leave the country every 90 days, that adds to your cost. Most of these people sam to be working in Vietnam, but about retired people? They would probably be on a tourist visa.

Thanks for the questions! Border runs every 3 months for new tourist visas are the most common way to stay long term in Vietnam. Other options for long term residency include - marriage to a Vietnamese individual, working for a Vietnamese registered company, or investment into a business (business incorporation also accepted) I hope this helps!

I'm afraid to step foot in Vietnam because of all the negative reports. Is there really "good quality" food in Vietnam? Supermarkets in shopping malls? Public transport infrastructure? Is the tap water safe to drink (boiled)? Are there pickpockets & thieves everywhere? Are the food in the restaurants (if any) safe to eat? Is the airport customs/immigration going to be a problem coming in & going out?

I believe you will find that there is a growing food scene in Vietnam that is rivaling Thailand. International supermarket/mall brands are here and have been here for decades. Public spending on infrastructure has been and continues to be one of the Vietnam government's main focuses. Water should be purchased and can be delivered to your house weekly. Vietnam in general has extremely low crime rates No issues with customs as long as you have a valid visa and passport. Hope this helps!

There are some areas and buildings which have higher rental rates - generally these are more luxury condos and villas around Da Nang

Bs they are talking about rents over $1,000 usd. Been there many times $400 to $500 tops for nice one bedroom They want you to think compared to the ridiculous us market so you buy their inflated condo prices

Thanks for the comment Jim - agreed there are a lot of nice condos in the range of UDS $400-$500! That being said there are also a lot of expats living in more luxury accommodations where rents can reach into the thousands of dollars per month. Lots of variety and options in Da Nang for all sorts of residents!

Now some of the cons. Virtually no night life, major public safety hazards worse than even in HCMC, medical care is not good, k-12 education system is no good unless you pay $15,000 to $20,000+/year for international school, foreigners cannot own property (only 50 year condo leases but no land leases), cars are much more expensive than in the west and many Asian countries, overall pretty boring for long term living for a foreigner.
