Leave, expecting adventure. We lived in Asia for 24 years, moved to Canada for almost 2 years and packed up, put my life in storage and left 6 months after getting my PR - nasty economy, terrible weather and no cultural sense of celebration. Sitting on the balcony of my condo with a full seaview in Thailand at less than a quarter of my rent in Ontario. You can get a retirement visa if you can show Baht 800000 (about C$30 000) in you account in Thailand. You can hire someone (affordable) to help you the first time. Enjoy the journey.🎉

Health care costs? What about health care insurance? Quality of health care? How many people speak/understand English now? What visa options are there? What options for people who want to retire there? Are there any senior living / nursing homes, and if so, what are their costs & quality (my parents will need this option eventually).
@stevepenfold7167
@stevepenfold7167 4 ай бұрын
Spent 6 weeks there over 2 trips, most people have a good understanding of English, certainly in Da Nang, Hue, Hoi An and Hanoi, anywhere touristy. Friendliest nation on earth and they would be queueing to help you if you had a language problem whilst out. Had to stay in a Hanoi hospital for 2 days and a night, after kidneys started bleeding/peeing blood clots. 3 scans, several drips, food, medication, overnight stay and a constant stream of Drs willing to practice their English on me and explain everything that was happening cost a grand sum of ...£85 I had travel insurance obviously so sorry dont know what it costs to get medical cover but I would guess pretty cheap Quick google search found this from 2021 In Vietnam, private nursing homes provide services at relatively high costs, averaging about 15 million VND (663 USD) for a single room and 19 million VND for a double room per month.

People talk about retiring in Vietnam but there no long term retirement visa. Either you marry a Vietnamese and get TRD, citizenship, or do 6 month visits. Da nang weather can get very hot. If you are not in the best of health, finding urgent care from experienced specialist and access to western meds could be a challenge. .

Thank you so much for showing us the beautiful city of Da Nang. Everyone always gets so sensitive when doing these cost of living as if we judge them. No one is honest. If you come here you will definatly need to set aside $1000 usd. The entertainment 100% will cost you more. It doesnt mean parting but all the places to go. Your not just going to sit in your apartment or lounge on the beach everyday. Trust me theres soooo many more sneaky suprises. Dont forget the visa costs and travelling in and out of the country. Even the cheapest option is 1.5-2million,dong which is probably $80-$100 usd. You need to write the costs as you go but the youtubers will just do a summary and make it look comparable to the other youtube but 100000% they are spending more. Honestly i cant see anyone even in a cheaper apartment in me khe doing it for less $1000 usd. Perhaps near my gf family home on the other side near Hai Van pass theres some super local spot but it may make you feel uncomfortable and then your costs add up in other way especially if you are green to the country

I completely agree. Dian did a lovely video, but it's missing so many budget elements - how about clothing - if you fly in with just a suitcase, you will have forgotten or need some extra boots or shirts; how about you get a sprain ankle and you need medicines; or visas costs, or - if you are truly living there for a month you will be super board just walking alone doing nothing. I invited some locals to my hotel pool - $12 for drinks for both of us, or I offered to pay for pizza for 3 of us as we watched the dragon fire and water show because I was the one asking the locals, who are very poor, to come join me at this pizza place with a view so that was $20. Those things and many more all add up to more than $600. But no matter that, I will agree Vietnam was cheaper than Thailand or Philippines (or certainly any western country).

@@eileenstill incognito is just another version of Chrome which doesn't cache as you browse the Internet. Meaning the minute you close your incognito windows, it doesn't remember password and browsing history. VPN is virtual private network which make browsing more secure. But it is more used when the country you are in block certain traffic, so people use VPN as if they are in another country. If you don't understand, then there is nothing to worry. It is not that important.

This is good to know; however, you may not realize this as a millennial, but the more you brag about the cost of living in Da Nang, which is the right way to spell it, the more ex-pats will flock to Da Nang. This will cause rents and properties to go up, and the overall price of goods and services will increase due to supply and demand economics. This happened in Thailand. Now, look at what is happening there. The next thing you know, the Russians who are fleeing Russia because of Ukraine are going to invade Vietnam as they have in Phuket and now have destroyed the environment due to their lackadaisical demeanor and are trashing what once was a paradise.

Not cheaper than Thailand. These "I'm Vietnamese" budget videos are useless. Foreigners have ZERO chance to live anywhere in Vietnam for less than $2,000/month. Backpacking, sure one can skimp and live for a few hundred, but no chance to do it for more than 1-2 days. I don't know anyone who has rented a bike without getting conned for a few hundred extra dollars from renting a bike for "$50". Two-tiered pricing also gets old really fast and without strong Vietnamese language skills or a local wife, you will pay 2X-10X what a local will pay. Why these videos are useless.
@JohnDoe-vc7bw
@JohnDoe-vc7bw 5 ай бұрын
I lived in Danang for 7 months and in Vietnam for 2 years, just buy a bike for $1000 or less. I lived on $700 per month easily. If you’re spending $2000, that’s on you. I never had a problem with anything you mentioned. If the price wasn’t right, I just go to another vendor.

@@Anomalyy666 Tourists and work Visa at different times. Work Visas got extremely expensive for employers after COVID. The most serious gouging is anytime a foreign person signs a contract, apartment/motorbike/employment, there is no way to enforce the contract. As soon as a foreign person signs a lease with a Vietnamese, the owner will advertise the same place for 50% higher, if they find a renter for more money, you will be kicked out. Look for the thousands of "I'm owed months of salary" stories in Vietnam. Driving a motorbike will cost you an extra $20 in fines a month, if you are lucky. These costs often only reveal themselves over the long run and why all the videos are "I can live in Vietnam for a few months for $1,000" and not "I've been living in Vietnam for 5 years, this is how much it really costs" which are not as popular.
