She lived in one upper class neighborhood hence the higher price plus she's talking about a family of five and the cost includes a full time living maid. Anybody can live on $600 per month but it will definitely be a huge difference in livestyles.

If you look for cooler weather, San Pedro Sula is not the city for you, is hot and humid 10 months of the year. You better look for Tegucigalpa, the city Capital for better climate, also the western Departments ( States) of Lempira, Intibuca, Copan, Ocotepeque, for colonial towns and cold weather.

I would first ask the people that you know. Nothing is better than a reference and word of mouth. Another option is trying an expat group and asking (still always interview the person). If your kids are in school I would def ask the cleaners. They usually have family members or clean homes themselves. Some people prefer live on and some people prefer someone who is there just the day. We always had a live in but found out most people prefer the opposite.

My toddler son and I currently live in southern, rural Costa Rica. $290 total for a very modest two bedroom house, wifi, lights and water. But for many reasons, I am considering other countries. One being that it's important for me to make sure my son sees other/more black children and immerses in the culture. I also miss really good food as well 💚 lastly I am finding myself more annoyed with the importation of goods (peanut butter, diapers etc.) as the main options coupled with the fact that the dollar doesn't go far at all in Costa Rica. It almost sucks your money away lol. Thank you for this insight. Can't wait to visit Honduras and get a feel for the energy.

Costa Rica is just a media manicured country. The most expensive in Central America. Honduras has more mountains, the second largest coral reef in the world, more Spanish Colonial cities, better gastronomy, more rich history, culture, more natural beauty than Costa Rica, costing 50% less. Once you get to Honduras, you will fall in love with the country. Shed off the dirty media war against Honduras.

Hi there (again! lol)!! I am very interested in connecting with you, if possible? Maybe by email or something since im not on the socials like IG. I am on fb messenger if that works. I really want to start my research for living in Honduras as its been really calling me. Currently living in Costa Rica and as mentioned, a non-negotiable for me now is the need to see more black children and black people overall. To not be the only ones or very few. I still want to immerse and learn Spanish but I would like to see more black native spanish speakers, etc. Anywho, i would like to know more as far as housing costs and quality based on that cost, closer to more children-friendly activities or places, etc. Would love to connect whenever possible :)

Thanks for the comment. And it’s a fine line. I felt the same way coming in as foreigner! We actually paid her more (at the time) with the exchange rate. However, reality if you pay more it makes an imbalance for the people who are actually from there. Foreigners come to Honduras (or any country for that matter) paying more in dollars and then the next thing you know the people who are from the country can’t afford the prices anymore. It causes a domino effect similar to back home in the states. A few years ago we could afford atlanta but then people came down from California raised all the prices.
