Watching this as an American and they are comparably priced to a rural Midwest town, which is saying much less than the average. And I would much rather live in Urban Chile over a rural midwest town. The high quality of life makes this seem like a quality choice for expats.

I'm American. Do I have to pay a entry fee for Santiago? Thanks

Thanks for watching and for leaving a comment! 😃 We couldn't agree more. Very reasonable cost of living, and great bang for your buck in Chile.

It is an excellent place [outside Santiago] to live for retired Americans with good health. Smaller beach towns are great places to finish life, if passive income is above average. You will not find employment there. I have lived there over 25 years, and after visiting California for three years am very happy to return to my small town about 30 miles from the coastline. If world events get hot, I will move to extreme south of Chile.

Honestly it's nearly US prices for many things, except for rent and public transportation. I don't see how the locals can afford to live here.

depends where in the USA, No way anyone in California is making 700 USD a month, the average Californian makes about 700-900 a WEEK

They can't. That's why we had epic protests in 2019 when they hiked the metro prices. It was just a small hike, but it was the straw that broke the camel's back. Then COVID came and it stopped the protests, but the issues remain. Santiago is the most expensive city in South America after Montevideo (Uruguay).

@@posteador eggs $4 for 12. Haircut $20 it's crazy for South America.

@@robbienorton9522 You should know that people in Chile are highly qualified, more than the rest of the continent. So the percentage of people who earn at the minimum is low. I'm telling you that I'm Chilean I'm 24 I'm studying at university and my mom works as a house cleaner and my dad drive trucks

Is there a entry for Chile for Americans in 2023? Thanks

Thanks for watching and for leaving a comment! 😀 Americans do not need to pay an entry fee to enter Chile. U.S. citizens traveling to Chile for recreation, tourism, business, or academic conferences do not need to obtain a visa prior to their arrival in Chile. A Tourist Card will be issued for a stay of up to 90 days.

During my visit to Santiago I was enthralled with the city. Parts of it reminded me of Manhattan and other areas reminded me of Beverly Hills. Budget wise, I find my home city of 8 years Medellin, Colombia to be noticeably less expensive across the board.

Thank you for the comment and for sharing your experience 😃 It certainly is a beautiful city, but tough to beat the cost of Medellin!

I had the good fortune of spending three weeks in Santiago so I got to see Valparaiso, Vin̈a del Mar, Los Andes and San Jose de Maipo as well and I fell in love with Chile. I felt like I was in a cross between NYC and Madrid. Chile is a developed country.

Wait… restaurants are higher than American prices, but groceries are 1/4 the price? Huh all while real estate and labor is much cheaper? Tell me how that makes sense.

of course it makes sense. Dining out is not a first need comparing to groceries, hence the high prices.
