• Income and Tax 0:49
Jobs opportunity seek.com.au and tax rates information from ato.gov.au
• Accommodation 1:24
Renting in Sydney is normally quoted on weekly price. $450 per week or $1800 per month. Check out domain.com.au, realestate.com.au, flatmates.com.au and gumtree.com.au
• Utility Bills 2:42
$150 per month (note: utility bills are charged every quarter). Some providers are Energy Australia, AGL, Origin, etc. Always compare different providers for best value plans.
• Dining Out / Food 3:29
$400 per month. This will depend on lifestyle. Since we are food vlogger, we spent so much on food as our food videos are self-funded
• Groceries 4:26
$400 per month. Despite Coles and Woolworths being the major supermarket in Sydney, check out Aldi for bargain deals.
• Internet / Phone 6:04
$100 per month. We opt for NBN which cost about $70 per month then plus $30 for mobile internet. Major providers are Telstra, Vodafone and Optus.
• Cars 6:40
Petrol costs $45 per week or $180 per month if we drive everyday but we are taking public transport during weekdays. Buy cars from carsales.com.au, gumtree.com.au or dealership. Compulsory insurance must be purchased and renew yearly.
• Public Transportation 8:11
$25 per week or $100 per month for taking trains every weekdays. More information Transport NSW website.
• Tips and Tricks from Locals 9:02
Some websites to save you some money: ozbargain.com.au, gumtree.com.au, groupon.com.au and joining Facebook group like Markdown Addicts Australia, or your local area Facebook community group.
Total spent around $3000 per month for both of us.

Awesome coverage of costs in Sydney! Very detailed! I find a lot of the stuff similar to Melbourne, slightly more pricier. Love how you guys shot this, the free walking around and the sound quality with the mic is perfect! Oooooo yeah ozbargain is the best. We use that too. $500 saving on the lens!! so good! All of the tips are spot on! Good work guys!

I recommend getting a home a bit far from Sydney CBD but not as far as 50 - 80 Km and if you wanna go to the main CBD and enjoy the view you could take the ferry from the local river or take train, bus maybe even light rail which might be rare

Hi guys! Another great video! Love seeing how things are in Sydney, and being in Melbourne, I guess quite a lot of things are priced similarly! Since the last time I was renting, seems like Sydney accomodation is a bit higher than Melb. Honestly, our tax is so high here haha! Thanks for the tips and tricks! Haha, OzBargain is something my husband uses absolutely all the time, and we agree that it’s such a good place to find great deals! Thanks for the video! Take care, Alditha

@@nickandhelmi it all depends on the location if your more far away from the CBD it would be much cheaper like you could easily get a 1 bedroom apartment for 150 - 170 dollars and groceries i think woolies is quite cheap if you wanna buy a bag of chips (woolies branded) it only costs about 1.60 AUD and much more woolies essentials are SUPER cheap.

You two have nailed it. You're great presenters, your content is excellent in sound and video quality, cam angles and editing, and (just an idea) if you worked on a bit more detail and strecthed them out to about 30 minutes each - you're not at all boring so it would be very watchable - you could travel the world making a different city each time and make a great living out of this. You're easily, to this century, what Lonely Planet books were to the last century. Start by doing Melbourne and Brisbane, finish off Australia, then head to Europe where any city is a couple of hours away. Don't be afraid to credit sponsors - just make sure they're credible and in line with the honest image you're presenting. You really are the best at this that I've seen, and as you know there are a lot of people doing it. Don't be scared off by the competition - you're the BEST. Well done! :)

I'd argue that for a lot of people, a car isn't necessary at all. There's so much traffic in Sydney that even on the weekends, the roads are packed. For road trips or the like, rent a car. You'd save thousands of dollars in the long run.

Love this! We never really thought about making a cost of living video and it's super interesting. So nice that you guys decided to put this together! So nice you can drink tap water. I'm always nervous to drink it. The first time I ever did it was in Venice because it was apparently the BEST! We really hope to visit Sydney some day and all of this information is super helpful! Where we are in Bali at the moment. We have been here for 5 months and we actually feel that eating out may be cheaper then cooking groceries. Crazy at it sounds, but if you budget everything out, it works out better though we generally find street food! We also don't have access to a kitchen so we try to make it work. Best of all, we LOVE The OPAL card idea. We generally take public transportation everywhere we go so it works out so well! Some really great tips over all guys! We have watched your whole video to support and just LOVE all of your content.

Good information you 2 🤗 Sydney is one of the best cities in the world and not as expensive as alot other cities we have lived, having lived and stayed in many major cities around the world we keep moving back here and making another move back at the end of the year 😍we see with covid the rents have dropped quite abit in some inner city areas.If you live in a good inner city suburb with everything you need within walking distance you dont need to have a car, otherwise the transport links are excellent.

Where I live in Canada, food looks comparable, electricity and a phone is significantly cheaper in Sydney. Car insurance is lower, but gas is more expensive. House prices and rent is where Sydney kills ya. 1m+ for a 2 bedroom condo larger than a closet. I could buy 3 houses here for that. 2000 a month for rent is like a penthouse suite downtown. Also australia taxes are significantly higher.
@nickandhelmi

Interesting to hear from Canada thanks Genevieve 🙌🏻 Yup so true 2bedroom apartments in good location closer to city can be 1mil+ 😆 so yeah Sydney's property (buy/rent) is the killer so most of income just to pay that rent/mortgage 😭

It was great you guys explained some of the different accommodation .. houses, apartments, etc. We can't imagine how expensive it is to live right in the CBD area. The spot you guys went to for breakfast looked like a really great place, and you can't go wrong with avocado toast.. You know that's a Cali thing right?? HAHAHA

I'm here in Toronto. Loved Australia and hope to go back. Rents here are expensive but told my Aussies that food and rent is higher in Sydney. Most professionals up here make $80-$100,000....most 20 somethings can afford a house up here.

We were cracking up when Nick was talking about how "soft" you want your toilet paper LOL!! Extra soft please.. Min 2 ply for sure!! You don't want that sticking to the neither region LOLOL!! Great resources and links for visitors, using ferry or trains. We would totally take the ferry just to get the views of the Sydney Harbor. Butters was drooling when she saw those Tim Tams... her favorite!! Great video and love you guys to the mother effin' moon!! 🙏🏻💖🌛🤗😘

Hey guys, thanks for sharing! I have seen many shared rooms to rent for 180 per week in Pyrmont (close to CBD), and it makes me wonder if the decrease in the price is due to the pandemic we are facing? You mentioned that the minimum price could be 250 per week so... am I right?
@nickandhelmi
@nickandhelmi 3 жыл бұрын
Hi Pamela, yes definitely one of them is due to pandemic, also quality of room and the landlord itself. Many factors :) 250 is definitely just a guide 😬, pre pandemic though
