Bottled water in Switzerland???!!! The water is one of the best quality in the world!
@pattifilms78587 жыл бұрын
+Orpheas Nestos Well it actually depends in which city, for example zurich has alot of limestone in its water but it's drinkable. I prefer bottled water but if you think that it's a waste of money of course you can drink tap water...

I'm a French guy, born in Lyon, raised in Lille. I traveled a lot, lived a year in NYC, where I met my GF, who's actually from Zh. After 6 years of a long distance relationship, I moved to Zh 2 years ago to work and live here with her. We now have our own apartment in Thalwil (a small but really nice village alongside the lake) with a balcony and the lake of Zh for a view, 1 minute away from our building actually. Don't mistake me, I love my country, I love its culture, its History. I think it is one of the country (if not the only one) that offers the most beautiful and varied landscapes, with a food culture, art culture, historical culture and all that (Italy comes really close). But Gosh do I love living here! Mountains and lakes are gorgeous, people are respectful and polite, the streets are clean and well-kept. Yes, things are expensive, but salaries are also high, which is a luxury when you travel abroad, because everything seems so cheap. There's a respect for traditions and yet an appeal for modernity. I always compare Switzerland with Japan. A western Europeanized version of it. When I go back to visit my family or friends, as soon as I step in Paris, where I have to transfer to another train to reach Lille, I am always saddened to see what is becoming of this city, and of the general state of my country in general. I am in love with Zürich, really. The only other city I would say I love as much (for complete different reasons) is New-York.

As someone who grew up in Zurich and who has lived here all my life hearing and seeing people buy water is just not at all understandable to me. Someone has pointed out that our water "has the highest cocaine content in the world"; yes we do but that's not the drinking water. I understand that people who didn't grow up here are scared to drink tap water without filtering and boiling all hell out of it, but that's not necessary here. We have fountains everywhere in the cities that all provide clean well drinkable water straight from the well. We also have some of the best infrastructure in the world and with that comes very clean water. Anyone interested in the sewage system and water cleaning should really read into it. So instead of always pointing out the bad things about Switzerland, perhaps people should also look at the good sides. Yes Zurich is hella expensive for people who don't live and earn their money here but with the high income and the great infrastructure everything gets evened out. Anyone who has ever been in one of the bigger cities in Switzerland like Zurich will have noticed how clean everything is. We also have an exceptionally low crime and unemployment rate and an extremely low rate of homelessness. Infact the only way you can land out on the streets is if you refuse all help from the government and choose to live on the streets yourself. When can people stop bashing Switzerland?

George must be the most frugal guy in the Western hemisphere; your calculations are basically correct but it takes an enormous amount of self discipline to always pick up the cheapest option. And if you relax a bit in only one respect (e.g. rent,or going out, or see a doctor), your monthly costs will easily leap to over CHF/USD 3000. I think it's safer to put the minimum monthly costs at CHF 3000. But you can easily spend doubly as much without doing anything special.

You can get good coffee for half that or just buy a coffee machine. Living in Zurich is expensive, but you gotta know how to be resourceful.

Man I appreciate the effort, but you are far off. No way you can spend that little living in ZH. I lived there for a couple of years and I was nowhere near that budget, despite not leading a particularly expensive life. CHF 1300 for a 1.5 Zimmer apartment is absolutely cheap, no way you are living in neighbourhoods such as Oerlikon. I was paying CHF 1500 in an old building in one of the worst neighbourhoods of ZH (city not canton). Partying for 50 CHF? Not even in Tessin (you canton, I'm guessing) you can spend that little. Either you get beers at Coop before going out (still, 10 CHF) or that's crazy. Who would consider "entry + drink" partying? In a bar, expect to pay 8 CHF for 0.5l of beer. In a club, 20 CHF entry + 13 CHF for a bottled beer and 20+ for any cocktail. If you decide to dine in a restaurant, forget about spending less than 50 CHF per person -- and that's mid-range, no wine (maybe a glass) You were right about health insurance, mobile & internet, transport, etc though. To me, this is video is more about what is the MINIMUM you need to live in Zurich. Nonetheless, congrats on the video itself, well done.

Mathias Grønstad more like the beer and rice. Milk eggs and meat are healthy in small amounts. Also how he eats more fruit than veg, and eats 8kg of meat compared to 10kg of meat!! That’s insane. Veggies should always dominate.

I don't know how much the average swiss make but those cost of living is insane. Most people these days that are from rich countries even try to live in lower cost countries and do not work at all since they are earning passive income and the conversion rates help them.

well … get a card bleue if you go to cinema twice a month. And are Gym and Uber rides actually things people «need»? And who eats 8kg of meat a month? This is more like showing how much it seems to cost you personally to live here and not an average person. Additionally It's a bit alienating to me that you'd go to Aldi to buy food but not grab a cheaper option on phone/internet.

René Jossen It's an estimate of a average life quality. He included very generic free time activities and foods. He did not include eating out as example which costs between 10-40 Chf if you don't go high class. Of course this might vary on what you like or want to do and also taxes are not included but I think most people that have a job spend more.
@Pfoffie6 жыл бұрын
HeartbeatPlantation it’s extremely arbitrary. Which would be absolutely fine if he stated it like that. But he did present those as normal/average options; which they simply are not.
@heartbeatplantation7956 жыл бұрын
René Jossen it's the most common livestyle in Zurich I would say (I'm from there). Cinema and some kind of sport are very common free time activities here. It's a good example of the basic Zurich person.
@Pfoffie6 жыл бұрын
HeartbeatPlantation I work in Zurich and my inner circle of friends live in Zurich. I myself live in Lucerne, yet I very well know my ways around. So in general I don’t know a person who goes twice or more to a blockbuster cinema a month and does not own any form of reduction (eg. carte bleue / pathe pass). Additionally - as I already stated - it’s extremely alienating that one would choose the high prices gym option yet go to super extreme low price discounter shops for food. It’s extremely arbitrary and just this individuals specific way of living. I’m not judging it - although as stated some behavior is alienating to me - but it’s simply not representative. Especially not for foreigners who may think of moving there.

Buy a coffee machine and an electric bike(solar chargeable) along with long lasting and high quality clothes for a bit more money once and use for long. Moreover George can also take a low budget health insurance plan too by riding the e-bike a bit slower which means he needs to find a shared apartment or room near his university or work place. If the house is a bit far away then hey George please wake up and start for university or office a bit earlier. And George take care of your nutrition and install health apps for guidance in health status of yours, they also suggest a diet plan and exercises(save gym bill). Moreover waking up early will already make you healthy, wealthy and wise but hey remember you need to sleep early too. Basically take 7 hours of sleep maximum(I take 6 hours of sleep and am healthy btw) and make sure that these hours don't interfere in the morning time. Waking up early is always good for health and time saving.

People are like robots. And you rarely see Swiss ( Except the Drunk ones) people in Big cities. Swiss Culture is somewhere in the Alps.. god luck exploring it lol.andddddddd Kebabs here Are disgusting and expensive 10 Franks?? İ was like u kiddings me ? İ ended up eating French fries instead. "Is it better to live in the United States or Switzerland ?" someone here asks ( who has a ridiculously long username that I'm not going to type out ) I'm an American and I would rather live in Switzerland any day... look at how clean it is , pristine, so beautiful... it's peaceful and quiet.. doesn't have places that go up to 107 degrees Fahrenheit in the summer... Switzerland seems to have really well running public transit and does not seem to have a problem with massive traffic jams and air pollution... you don't see fast food restaurants everywhere with all their own healthy chemicals and preservatives and high fructose corn syrup everywhere . It seems as if they have much better manners in Switzerland and or not as rude or pushy... looks like Switzerland is not in a hurry as much as everyone is in the United States... you get the impression that overall is a much better quality of life in Switzerland... they appear to have low crime .. who can even put a price tag on that ? You don't see people who live to work for the most part you see people who work... Switzerland seems to be much healthier in general and people walking a lot and eating better. It just seems to be an overall much more saner place to live.. mentally , physically , spiritually. I'm not saying I wouldn't get homesick for America but I wouldn't want to have to be stuck a 100 % of the time there.. it's too crazy and neurotic and too commercial ,and chaotic , sorry to say .

Thank you for explaining this to me... I hope it will continue to be a clean and green country ... Hope Switzerland can stay spacious and lovely for as long as possible. I hear it is a relatively quiet country which sounds wonderful
