@nememel1
@nememel1 2 жыл бұрын
And yet, nothing is being done to establish affordable & safe! housing for anyone. The homeless problem continues to escalate rapidly across the country. Pet rent increase? Really? Utility rate increase? Don't utilities give bulk rate discounts (for apartment complexes & corporations)? Developers were given $$ incentives to build in Charlotte, who in turn, have uglified Charlotte with death-trap high rise apartments. Apartments used to be built where all the front doors were on the outside of each unit, with a shared terrace & stairs - plus have more trees, greenery, and prettier, quainter/private landscaping. Have lived in this city for 16 years and kept up with news reports on development. My parents were in real estate & commercial construction in a neighboring county. All the bedroom communities in surrounding counties of Charlotte will ultimately do the same as Charlotte - increase housing costs. Having to live further out of Charlotte will create more traffic. Charlotte has not kept up with infrastructure. The bus system in this city is unreliable & slow. Most Charlotteans are dismayed with city management & city council. Businesses are having to shut down or locate further out because their rent has increased too, or buildings are being torn down to create ugly high-rise apartments. Charlotte used to be called "The City of Trees", but is rapidly losing its tree canopy & beauty, which has noticeably increased temperatures, noise & light pollution. Yet, it refuses to pay emergency responders and their departments (trucks, equipment, payrolls, etc) to keep up with 911 needs. No, city management & city council are more interested in selling out our city to developers, sports teams & stadiums, pizza parlors, breweries & bars. No exaggeration whatsoever there. I know Charlotte is a growing city, but over & over Charlotteans are saying it is NOT being done right - and it isn't! We don't have parks like other cities and the ones we have, are barely used because so many crimes (rapes, assaults, murders) happen in Charlotte parks. Where's the money going so Charlotte parks can be used safely? I sat in on a Zoom meeting with city management last year. I asked one city management woman about the needs of bicyclists, and she said the connection was bad; she didn't hear me (she said this snidely with a smirk on her face), because THAT is the attitude of city management & city council. They have not listened to community members for decades (I grew up in a neighboring county to Char-Meck) but will listen to developers. If you are considering moving to Charlotte to flee problems in your city, be warned, they are in Charlotte too, and sadly, getting more so. Charlotte schools are a whole other wall of text (ie: sad).

Rent here runs $1,200-$1,500 per month and a nice condo with two bedrooms next to me rents out for $2,200 per month. The condo owner must pay for water, garbage pick up, snow removal, lawn and garden care etc....the condo owner pays for a $390.00 HOA fee per month alone and in 2018, we had a $2,800 assessment for building new deck railings and property taxes that rubs over $5,000 annually.. Too any person who wants it bad enough. Save until it hurts. Save so much people around you think you’ve gone mad. People will start to call you crazy. When you hit that magic number, you’ve arrived. Home ownership is still possible for the average person. You have to want it and go get it. Save save save. Every day, every waking second that’s all you do. You have no life purpose but that. That’s how you get there. When you pay rent you make someone else richer. It does nothing to benefit you. You gain no equity. When you pay your mortgage you stand to gain everything. You become wealthier from a paid off house. You gain equity. You also gain sanity. No more price increase. No more moving every yr or two. Stableness. Peace of mind. Sanity. Best of all. You get to do whatever you want to the house. It’s your house. Pay off your debts. Having debt and buying a house on a mortgage is TROUBLE. I have $0 debts minus my house.

Surprised to hear that you can still rent a place for a $1000/mo. People are leaving Florida in droves because it’s way too high here. $1800 is on the low end for a decent 1br apartment. This is a domino effect now- people are leaving to escape high rent in other areas and once they find rent that relatively cheaper- that gets raised as well. It’s never ending.

Duke power has everyone so there is no need to increase.. and raising rent is not necessary they don't care about a human life they are rich if you do the math and racist because they don't want minorities in a city where jobs are abundant car repairs are extremely expensive so if your car breaks down and you don't live in Charlotte you are in trouble... they need treat people they way they want to be treated... they know if this keeps going nobody will be here but the rich man it's all designed to punish the poor and make them homeless and they're sending money to Ukraine instead of building affordable housing and make it a law for a reasonable rent cap to be in effect all over America so that everyone has a place to live...it said in the bible that in the last days the love of the world will grow cold

It would help if the contracting companies would build some of the new housing around here a little more basic and a little less fancy so people don’t have to pay higher rent for stuff they don’t need or don’t care about. I'm no expert on these things, so my 2 cents could mean nothing, but I feel like this would not be much of an issue if employers started paying proper wages that kept up with inflation. I left a comfortable job in healthcare after 5 years to work in a warehouse manufacturing vaping liquid for d-bags bc it paid more..after 7 years and a few raises it's still less than $17 per hour. The costs of insurances, rent/mortgage, utility bills, car payments/maintenance, groceries, children, pets, etc..are all rising, and yet the people running the country/states are confused as to why most people can't afford to live anymore. Crime is on the rise bc criminals aren't being dealt with properly due to woke politics, and good people are sometimes being forced into doing desperate things bc they can't afford to feed their families. Remember back when covid first showed up and the government gave people unemployment checks that they felt were equal to the average wage, but most everyone was getting paid more than double what they made working full time? How did that alone not show them that most people are underpaid?

Get rid of the "MARKET RATE!" That is the cap on what the Rental Industry can charge for rent,but 100% of the time it prevents people from maintaining a living situation that is affordable. City Council's and Mayor's have to do their part and stop allowing the "Over Priced Development" of land's that were once affordable to the people that used to live there. If a Factory comes to Town,they will tear down hundred's of Homes just to accommodate them and many times,that Factory suck's up the Tax Break Money and leaves!!!

We’re we are renting right now it was actually a good move to move in when we did a few years back because now we are getting new townhomes and apartment buildings added to the neighborhood. This I heard is going to bring up property values that were already pricy. I mean like what the world really needs right now is less affordable housing.
