Joe, for as much as you love your coffee you need to look into roasting your own beans. I started a few years ago and roast all my own now. Depending on your taste you can pan roast over a fire, use an air popper, or buy a dedicated roaster. I finally graduated to the later since it gave me the most consistent light to medium roasts. I purchase my green beans online for about $6 to $7/lb. It may not work for you though with your space constraints and it would definitely need to be an outdoor activity since it produces some smoke and quite a bit of chaff from the beans. Lots of info online if you haven't already researched the subject. Happy and safe travels to all three of you!

Did you buy that camper or is it on loan ? remember to take into account the cost of depreciation. On a brand new camper that cost is large in the first 12 months. Also the cost of tires and other mechanical items of the camper. Servicing the camper. Then add that to cost of fuel food campsites ect.

I'm reading "Take Risk" and loving it. How about a little detail on your writing process (where did you write, how long did it take to finish the book, did you use a professional editor, etc). I'm currently writing a nonfiction book, but live in a very noisy city, so getting a LTV next year and doing the Thoreau thing. I been thing about this for a long time and you are living the life I want-very inspiring.

I may be wrong, but are you not "sponsored by Hymer", meaning they gave you that van for a specific amount of time for your reviews? Also is the same to be said for many of the upgrades you did to the van. The cost of the RV (van) could be a great monthly out lay that you did not discuss. If I am wrong I apologize in advance. I do very much enjoy your videos, but I also think full disclosure is essential.
@stevekraynik29917 жыл бұрын
Yeah I too would like them to clarify what their partnership with Hymer entails. Their website makes it clear they aren't getting paid by Hymer to post. If they were given the use of the Hymer van for 1 year for free that is a pretty large thing to not disclose.
@Tadpole9117 жыл бұрын
They mentioned when they were getting the van that it was provided by Hymer.
@dansouthcomb54397 жыл бұрын
Doug Humphrey Exactly my point, not everyone follows them as intently as yourself. So to say what it costs to live on the road, I think they need to inform their viewers that it does not include the vehicle, which by the way is the most costly part of nomadic living.

Just started watching your videos, love 'em. Wondering how and where you research where to overnight park. I saw in the previous video you had a map showing where you could "stealth" park in the city, where's that come from? When I planned a self-contained bike tour last year I spent days looking for where I could camp and I only had a bike and tent, no van. After my AT thru-hike next year I'm planning on building my own camper-van to travel and live in, could really use some help for "on-the-road". I'm going to start watching your videos from the start next. Happy traveling.

Off topic, but when you were thinking of what type of RV to go into, after getting out of the class a, did you ever consider a pickup truck/camper combo? I've been set on getting a class b for a while now, but recently started researching truck campers and I think it could work for me, with a few caveats. I already own a Nissan Frontier, so that's the main reason I started down this road.

@MarkFurukawa7 жыл бұрын
I think all your RV/travel memberships that are not related to your business ventures (maybe even those?) would be useful. It would show average aggregate costs and maybe an explanation of why you have memberships that may seem redundant. OTOH, your grocery bills are probably just as unique as insurance costs - Whole Foods and Costco are at opposite ends of the spectrum for cost, neither of which many of us use. For example, I for one don't eat anything 'healthy' and our dog is around 25lbs compared to Leo's 80-90lbs(?). Do you think your grocery costs are different because you're living in a van as opposed to a house? I mean besides the Ricolas while Joe is behind the wheel.

Now that was some really useful information, thanks for sharing. For sure, you're definitely on the upper end of the money scale, but that's good to know so I can compare a range for those who maximally minimize and those who spend for fun and enjoyment like you're always on vacation. For sure my food bill would be about 1/3 of yours. Maybe you can map out some farmer's markets in favorite places to cut food costs?
@andrearose54516 жыл бұрын
does your cost include the van??? It is said that you guys got the van for free.......if so not really actual costs
@aransom8087 жыл бұрын
Something tells me that you didn't cover insurance because your sponsors are covering that :P There was no factoring monthly payments of the van payments, for us mere mortals. Didn't cover Leo's food cost. Or is he included in the $427? No worries! Still a fan ;D

Lmbo!! Ok the out takes were my favorite. I know i would be doin my faor share of screwin up. Lol So its nice to see the out takes. This is real life Baby!!! You guys are great. I love the van life but my hubby swares we need more space. We will be working out of it for the 1st year so it will be our stationery home for at least that 1st year. Plus we have quite a few lil furbabies that are our pack so they need a little more space to roam. Ive always loved the tiny cottages when we were apartment hunting. Just the quaintness of them have always been attractive to me. But hes not buyin it lol. Its usually the man that wants the smaller van or RV. Less gas less room to have junk to store. Things like that but not my hubby. He wants as big as he can get. He used to drive the big rigs so driving them dont scare him at all. He can back up a 50ft trailer truck combo in a tiny lil driveway like you would a spirts car. Lol its wild to watch him. Im freaking out inside. Anyways thank you for the run down. Truely I dont feel its any of our business what your expenses are. An average budget rundown I can see. But I was raised not to ask those kind of questions. But it is nice you are so transparent with your budget. I can see someone wanting to know what it would cost to travel in a van vs. a class A RV, but I dont need to know ypur gym cost or food cost. Thats your business. Im not trying to be rude and if it comes out that way let me say sorry now. I understand you telling people but like I said I feel its rude for anyone to ask "how much is your bills?" I just dont need to know that. But I am sure there are some that dont care and ask anyways lol. I love watching you guys and Im a big fan cause of tje fact u are doggie friendly too. The care you give for your furbaby speaks volumes. So please understand Im not at all tryin to be rude. Just people need to mind their business sometimes. You are on UTUBE but you are a family and you dont need your whole life under a microscope because of it. You share alot more of your life than most of us would. So let ypu have your money spending habits to yourself is all Im tryin to say. As always though it was fun to watch. Much 💘 🐝Safe & God Bless you both. See you next time

Well. I can tell you that they live in a very nice RV, money is not an issue with Kait and Joe. 10 x's the cost of what I could call home, or my camper which I could easily call home. Easily! Nature is what you make of it. I hear you, but not a problem in my camper at all, it's just like a small home. You need to scout around Emily, if you are considering the lifestyle. There are more solutions than problems. Trust me. I searched almost 3 yrs for what suited my life. I only had to convince HER. *LOL* One day, one day, I'll be there and totally living free. :) Nice chatting.

Don't be afraid to include some of your lapses in your video. We don't subscribe because we are looking for a perfect production. We subscribe because we want to see real people tell us what we need to know. Including some of those in your video makes it seem like we are seeing and hearing real people. You could have a manikin stand there while you read a script and loose your entire audience. We watch because we like you and we want to see the real you talk to us. Please consider this a compliment than a criticism. We don't want perfection. We want the real you!
