Never had a issue with driving in CR. I have a Costa Rican driver’s license since 2007.
@UNBRIDLEDLivinginCostaRica9 ай бұрын
Having a CR driver's license make a big difference in my opinion. I think when you get stopped...and they see you have a CR Driver's license, then they happily wave you through because they know you are committed to being in Costa Rica if you have a CR driver's License. Tell me what you think?
@SilverTurtle659 ай бұрын
@@UNBRIDLEDLivinginCostaRica Absolutely makes a big difference in how you get treated. I have a B1 and a C1 driver license so I usually show them the commercial license and I’m on my way. I owned and drove a red Taxi in Jaco for over 10 years so I know a lot of traffic cops. If you’re going to live in Costa Rica you should first learn Spanish and get a CR driver’s license.

To be fair, there is plenty "good, bad, and UGLY" in navigating Costa Rica laws. But to your point, I think the current President had been helping bring about many changes to streamline and make things somewhat easier. More work to be done, but when we lived there in 2001 vs today, C.R. has vastly improved.
@UNBRIDLEDLivinginCostaRica9 ай бұрын
yes...I've seen a LOT of improvements in the short 10 years that I've been here. We just have to remember to focus on the good...and enjoy life...regardless of the Bad and the ugly.

Last year, wifey and I visited Costa Rica. Myself, being back home after 36 years in the US. I got stuck driving at night during a long downpour after visiting family near La Fortuna. Drove half the family crew back to their home in Miramar, Puntarenas, before my wife and I could make it back to Grecia and our AirBnb. Over 4 hours of driving in almost no visibility with rain and thick fog, almost no street signs and narrow roads with no shoulders, guardrails and a cliff on one side. It was very stressful and I don't recommend driving at night unless you have been there several weeks/months. Roads are nothing like the US and Canada and this is coming from a person that considers himself a wheelman.
@UNBRIDLEDLivinginCostaRica9 ай бұрын
Thanks for sharing that experience...You are correct...the roads here are NOTHING like any other place that I've been. I can be scary and downright DANGEROUS to drive at night.

This is definitely an extra point for costa rica, I'm still debating over Panama or Costa Rica. But for some strange reason in Panama, you can visit for 180 days. But Driver's license is only valid for 3 months.

Thanks for sharing that...I didn't know that about Panama. One thing I felt and didn't like about Panama was ....it felt like the people were NOT as friendly and I didn't like that they had so many MILITARY Presence around. And the only place in Panama that I like was from the City of David and back towards Costa Rica...from David on...Panama got Flat...and I like the mountains. Just my thoughts.

Thanks for the information I did visit Costa Rica in December was very impressed by the nature and mountains just beautiful only issue is cost I'm looking for retirement so I need to consider cost 7:09 My next visit will be to Panama probably will check out David and Boquete

@@Canada_Michael Yes....you will find Cost of living to be cheaper in Panama. I will often drive over to Panama about every 3 months. Buy a truck load of groceries and head home. Cost of fuel, and groceries are a big savings.... But I enjoy the beauty of Costa Rica and in my opinion, Boquete is very similar to CR. Lots of expats in that area too.

But...I must say, I highly advise against driving to CR...it is a real challenge. Some have done it....but it is NOT the best choice. You better have a lot of extra cash on hand and be prepared to pay a lot of bribes to make your trip easy. Just saying.
