Did anyone ever notice that Perry Como would always invite Dean Martin to his show but Dean never invited him on his program or even did a roast for Perry. It's like their working relationship stopped when Dean had his comeback in 64. You don't see them together afterwards. Wonder why?

Intresting question!

Isn't this from 65? They had a great rapport, maybe something to do with recording contracts.

The year was 1964. Just before Dean got his own show.
@lindashelley36354 жыл бұрын
MegaDean1995 I believe I read somewhere that Perry was rather conservative and a bit straight-laced when it came to what he would allow on his show. If that’s true, maybe he felt that Deans show (with the Goldiggers girls etc) was a little on the raunchy side for his image? Or perhaps he was one of those performers who didn’t feel comfortable with Deans famous policy of non-rehearsal and off-the-cuff ad-libbing style of humour. Whatever the reason it seems a pity because they DID work well together.
@markgiardina13034 жыл бұрын
You raised an interesting point. Even if Perry showed as one of the secret guests behind the door routine, that would have brought a cheer from the audience. I never heard there was a rift between the two men; like the one between Dean and Jerry.

I just got goosebumps remembering how great entertainers, songs and fun tv used used to be. I miss stuff like this with no politics involved and the performers connected with you like they lived next door.

Musically speaking, the 20th century in America belonged to the Italian crooners/singers. A cursory list will prove my point: Mario Lanza, Al Martino, Perry Como, Dean Martin, Tony Bennett, Frank Sinatra, Nancy Sinatra, Bobby Darrin, Connie Francis, Bobby Rydell, Buddy Greco, Domenico Modugno, Frankie Laine, Jerry Vale, Jimmy Roselli, Nick Lucas, Vic Damone, Julius La Rosa, Russ Columbo, Sergio Franchi, Frankie Avalon, Louis Prima, James Darren, Annette Funicello, Eydie Gorme, Liza Minelli, Anna Moffo. That's all I can remember at the moment.

I was born the end of 1943, my mother loved and played every day her records of Perry Como her favorite more than the bigger names like Frank Sinatra or Bing or anyone else except Nat Cole Tony Bennett , Mel Torme those three were great too. The point is I grew up with those sweet mellow voices and so I love them too! I was a child of the late 40’s and 50’s . But don’t forget Andy Williams. Thank you for reminding us how sweet it was. Xmas is always Sweeter with Nat King Cole, Bing Crosby Perry singing Ava Maria! Bless you Cost Ander.😊 oh btw, Sinatra said that Vic Damone was his favorite singer I saw that on an interview with him.

It's still amazing to me how much talent was on TV at any time back in the day ... For example, that's Carol Lawrence singing with Dean and Perry, almost overlooked, yet she was a huge talent in her own right. Take a look at some old Johnny Carson shows ... you would have Dean, Frank, George Gobel, and Bob Hope all on the same show, and they all would sit on the same couch and ad lib! You watch a late night show today, and there is a has been nobody struggling through a lame script with some unknown ingenue whose claim to fame is being barely dressed. And everyone uses autotune and lipsyncs HAHA
