Born in 71 in Australia and I know how fortunate I was to grow up with this and going to the SCG many times as a kid and sitting on the hill - growing up in Sydney it was magical - Australia was at its best then - it was an incredible place - 35 years now I’ve lived in America 🇺🇸 & I miss what I can’t ever have back 😊 it saddens me to see Australia how it’s become - riding the old Red Rattlers from Hornsby to Central Station then a bus to the SCG in the 80s and sitting on the hill at the SCG - there was nothing like it -

Commentary is all nostalgic except for the picture quality. Raised in the 90s so video quality was super. But still awesome due to the commentary. One and only Richie Benaud.

People born in those times must have been the luckiest of souls for getting a chance to experience it naturally unlike the modern times where there'a too much of artificiality.❤

Border Border poor Allan Border.....life sucks with so many heartbreaks in test cricket man ...Melbourne lost by 3 runs ...Madras 1984 Tied match ...Adelaide 93 dream to defeat WI looses by 1 run Today test cricket lives on because of heros like u who put their heart and soul for every single run for Australia
@TheBundleofkent3 жыл бұрын
The tied match in Madras was a "victory" for the Aussies, AB was mega happy about that one. The other two I agree with. Only reason he was involved in so many was because of his outstanding long career. I wish there was some footage of his two innings in Trinidad in 1984.......

In England, I grew up with an almost aristocratic version of Richie Benaud, reserved, calm and stateman-like. But he was clearly a very different broadcasting animal in his native land. He was an off-white or occasionally beige international chameleon.

At 18:30 one of the hardest losses. I was south of Adelaide with about 15 bloke's standing around the radio willing Thommo and Border on. We were stunned to here Thommo caught. A great match for sure.

Proper grown up cricket pitches. A fair battle between bowlers and batters. Nowadays batsman hit anything and it sails to the boundary. I still love the Tests but it’s not the same ..

A powerhouse West Indian team beaten by an innings, I remember it like yesterday. Dutchy Holland doesn't get his dues when talking about Australian leg spinners
@evanaskew66523 жыл бұрын
He could spin the ball quiet well but lacked the accuracy. Plus he was 38 when he made his test debut so he obviously wasn't a future prospect

I didn’t know that Derek Pringle played test cricket for England in that 1982/83 ashes series. I remember seeing him play in the early 90’s for England. Must have been very young in that ashes series??
@jshaers963 жыл бұрын
Pringle was the unflushable turd. Every time you thought you'd seen the last of him the useless bugger would pop back up.
@TheBundleofkent3 жыл бұрын
Yep, the selectors in 82 picked him for the Pakistan series and then Ashes. He did well for Cambridge that year and they gambled on him having a bit of Botham in him.

I think it kinda sucks that cricket is no longer really on free-to-air TV anymore, I get the corporate sponsorship and pay tv/kayo sports but 7 of now couldn't even secure the rights or the refused to pay it, channel sometimes as well?! I'm not the biggest fan of cricket I'll admit but there's something magical about watching the 80's variant here. It's just kind of comforting to watch with it's old school larkinism and characters (players and broadcasting team) without the abundance of ads either. It would be televised for a whole sunday as I remember?! Oh well thanks for the memories.......

Test cricket is still FTA and the underhanded deal that CA, Seven and Murdererdoch struck over the ODIs is completely illegal. I've not umpired in two seasons because I refuse to display the CA logo on my clothing.
