Still to this day the greatest ODI innings I've ever seen

What stands out for me even now, nearly 40 years on, is Viv Richards' stillness and poise whilst the bowlers approach the crease. That, his balance and superb reflexes were the hallmarks of his greatness.

I'll be honest, I'm no fan of cricket. But seeing this brings back so many memories of summer holidays from school in the 80s. My dad was self-employed so was home all kinds of odd hours, and if he was home during the day, the cricket was on. Hearing the voices of Peter West, Jim Laker and the rest, make me think of my dad.

All I can remember from that year as a 12 year-old boy was the carnage of the tests. I was more scared of the West Indies than I was of the Soviet Union by the end of the series. It was actually pretty traumatic in some ways, so it's quite therapeutic to be reminded that they didn't have it all their own way!

This man was a genius and the best batsman I have ever seen in my entire life. Viv Richards it is...forget about records, just look at the ease with which he plays, the disdainful manner with which he deals with the fast bowlers, the power he had and the reflexes unmatched.

Definitely one if not one of the greatest 1 day innings of all time. It still is way better then current day cricket. Also that last wicket partnership has still not been broken after nearly 40 years . What a master-class🙈🙉🙊

Good to see Pringle offering some highlight bowling for once. He was a particularly underrated player back in those days, especially by me!

Masterful innings, Richard's in his prime " men against boys" Viv put the ball where ever he wanted. I remember it well, 106 for the 10th wicket so credit to Michael Holding too.

It's not easy to judge players from different eras, so many variables have to be taken into consideration. Let us just enjoy these players as being greats of the game.

Without doubt the greatest one day innings ever played, and it will probably never be bettered because how do you compare this to the modern game with so much in the way of restricted fielding positions, super bat technology and power plays etc.? Viv was peerless.

England must be licking their lips when windows were 100/7 or something. Next thing they know score has crossed 150 /8 and ended with more than 250. One man destroyed the bowling attack single handedly. Bowlers were too good and would have defended even 169 runs, let alone 269.
