My grandma is the same way. It some deeply seated need that I believe originates in childhood. My grandmother was very poor growing up. They barely had anything so now that she has the ability to buy things, she just goes all out. I remember my great grandmother telling me about growing up during the Depression and people would save everything, even scraps of paper and trash. This led to a lot of people becoming hoarders. My grandmother has one of those standup deep freezers stocked full of meat, vegetables, fruit, etc. The fridge is always fully stocked. She has a spare bedroom that is basically like a mini shopping mart complete with stocked shelves. She used to go to a discount grocery store that sold damaged stock like dented cans, and she would load up. I'm talking cardboard boxes full of shit. Any time we went over to see her she'd end up giving us bags and bags of food. Its just her and my grandpa. They don't even eat that much food. She's always calling me to ask if I want their leftovers, which I gladly accept, but they don't need that much food. I have other family members that are the same way. They'll buy so much food that it spoils or goes bad before they can eat it. There will be shit in the pantry from 5 years ago. I have the main staples that I always eat so I buy like 3-4 of them at the time. I'll buy meat to freeze, but my family goes overboard with it. They act like the grocery store will be gone tomorrow.

We view it as a very serious health problem very early on. We're norwegians, and there are certain cultural expectations that follows with that. Not really. It is but you're sort of betting that you will eat/drink it before it goes bad. For example, buying a big box of cereal is an easy bet. You just open one bag and leave the other one closed. Cereal has a long shelf life when opened. If you buy a bulk size of milk with the 2 gallons, you better hope you drink all that milk before the week is over. It depends on the shelf life and if you can win the bet of buying in bulk, not to mention paying for memberships to these sorts of retailers which creates a bigger disadvantage in cost for the consumer.

Of course I get other things too but those are my consistent weekly buys I go through and they feed me at least a meal each day of the week for less than $20. I can't do that at walmart. What I hate about Costco is their financial sector. My Mom died last June, called them to cancel her membership. They said the usual , "Sorry for your loss, blah blah blah. Think it's fixed. Nope! New card comes in the mail last week asking for the yearly fee. Called them to ask what's up? I either have to go into the club with her death certificate in hand or write a letter to end everything. You might think I'm silly in this beef, but her her credit line is $12,000!!! Thank God I'm in the house she once lived in getting her mail.
@francestaylor91567 ай бұрын
You have to go into the store for that. Some things you can’t do over the phone and signing up for Costco requires you to do it at the store. Makes sense that you have to cancel in person.
@smitet27 ай бұрын
You do know the credit card is through the bank right? Costco has nothing to do with anyone's line of credit 🤣
@austintrousdale23976 ай бұрын
@@francestaylor9156 Sounds to me like Costco wants your wallet and warm butt in their store even to cancel so the sights of bulk products you can’t live without and all the savory aromas will have you reconsidering.
@zachroberts19886 ай бұрын
@@francestaylor9156 They only do that to so youre less likely to cancel because you have to physically enter the store... its 2024 there is absolutely no reason you should need to do that other than costco's greed. You can buy a home or car on the internet, you should be able to cancel a store membership pretty easily!

People who pretend to prefer Walmart/Safeway/etc simply hate because they don't know what they don't know. Just getting your gas filled there alone pays for more than the membership itself.

Mama J Rae catching strays hahahaha. Her husband has a 12 hour blue collar job. So 4 frozen burritos is totally fine!!
Costco bit is funny and Tim's a comedian, but in fact Costco's perishables and organic food prices are unbeatable, as long as you don't gorge, you can get organic eggs, olive oil, good bread, protein in bulk, with less trips to the store, less gas burned for your car. Also they don't give you 2356 choices for shampoo, less cognitive load for the customer as they choose high quality products for you. it's incredibly hard to get your item in costco if you're a merchant. The perceived freedom of having to choose from 300 different items is mostly you trying to find out which one doesn't kill you and which one is healthy, you're not picking out of 600 brands of organic, super healthy cereal, 95% of them will get you hooked on big pharma and will give you diabetes. They also have a ridiculously good return policy, and high quality clothes for cheap. Their Kirkland signature brand clothes are 100% cotton, stitched well, etc.. if you have a big family, you're saving time and money by doing your clothes shopping and food shopping there. What's wrong with a company that helps you sort though all that and gives you lots of time back? Anyway, hope this helps, and I still think Tim is hilarious. And yes this is a comedy show.

Facts. 2 lbs of organic strawberries is $8 at Costco while 1 lb of organic strawberries is $8 at my local market. My kids love strawberries and I have to get organic because they are on the pesticide dozen list of fruits and veggies. I even grow my own organic strawberries at home and the kids want more haha.
