I know some games are worse for skin prices (looking at you League of Legends) but I still don't think it makes $60 a good or even an acceptable price, and I do hope it changes over time, though at this point I'm doubtful. On the bright side, at least the costumes are pretty to stare at in the Nikkepedia. Also proud to say I resisted with Scarlet's, but it was close 😰

Worst part is some of these are freaking lore skins. Some of em like Marian’s are canonical progressions of their character arcs. It’s genuinely a shame they’re gated by $60 paywalls. Also, more on the League of Legends shenanigans. The $250 Jinx skin being so not worth the price tag aside, guess what? The guy they made that $500 dollar skin for, Faker, doesn’t even use his own commemorative skin. In fact, he never uses skins intentionally. They made a $500 skin to immortalize a guy who never uses skins lmao. (Upside, I’m 100% sure most if not all the proceeds they got from selling skins of varying quality over the years is what allowed them to fund Arcane’s production to begin with.)

Good video, I mostly agree with it except for one point, at 3:40, "...that doesn't even up the character's stats", you DO NOT want to make a pay to win method to just magically increasing a character's stats, specially if said method is only available for a short period of time, it'd be incredibly toxic, UNLESS you just mean getting a dupe of the character in which case I agree. Also wanted to correct that both times there's been 2 gacha skins at the same time (1.5 and 2nd anniversary), each skin has been 50$, not 60$. Doesn't really make it much better, but felt it was a needed correction because it's just wrong info. I agree it's stupid expensive, at the VERY least it should be a better chance for the costume itself but I digress. Edit: Grammar

Sorry but pulling for dupes during banner is just that - a limited time method of increasing character stats. You could argue that you can pull for dupes on normal recruitment but this is very slow methode if you not spending on tickets and so much slower for Pilgrims that it almost out of equation. Not to mention Limited or Collab units.

i 100% agree that even though shift up has great pull rates and gives out lots of free gems and tickets more than other gacha game. a $60 Skin is a lot. Adding stats to those 50 usd costumes will be the stupidest thing they ever do. That will really make people feel being forced to buy them. As it is now is good, if people wanna help the developers by buying a pretty costume + all those pulls and items that's great. The love and effort Ship Up put in this game it's undeniable so they deserve any money they can make through these costumes and people who love and can support the game.

Random story related to this topic, but now you reminded me of the horror story of a guy who got the Rem pass skin in the last day she was available and didn't realise he couldn't get the character alongside the skin, and he ran out of money and resources to even try so he blew 20 USD into a nothing burger. I still remember when we tried to shame the people who bought the Rupee skin to avoid this scenarip again or at least lower the price... nope, it was useless, money talks so that's what people wanted all along, I guess

The tactics some games use to get you to pull on costume gachas are pretty disgusting too. I remember in one game, they give you 1 free pull for it. Problem is, the costume doesn't enter the gacha pool until after like the 5th pull, and the game did its best to hide that fact. So now, you get people hooked on a rigged gacha with that 1 free pull.

I'd like to give money to Shift-Up. I've enjoyed the game so far and they've done good work. Obviously the game can't run entirely for free. In its current state however the costume gacha feels so manipulative. From the weird way the costume only unlocks after however many pulls to the pricing of the tickets themselves where you need to calculate in your head how many tickets you _might_ need. It reeks of the bog standard mobile game special currency where they never sell you the perfect amount you might need for whatever it is. I have my problems with the pricing of regular skins too. Mission pass is _okay_ since you get more than just the skin but the shop skins should at least be ten dollars. I'm not a huge fan of mobile games besides Nikke so I'm not that familiar with how things or prices are usually handled. At the end of the day I'd like to support the game but I'd like to pay a fair price for things as well.

Modernia skin irks me the most as it’s story related in terms of her evolution as a character Most are just cool like “unga bunga sexy” unrelated to the plot of NIKKE (Though I guess the Crown skin is also related to plot also but I’m kinda ehh about it as it fills a gray area as it relates to her ability rather than a evolution of the character and isn’t interwoven with their development as a character) Basically I found it kinda scummy to say the least and is probably my only major gripe with NIKKE thus far It would have been fixed if A. You forgot to mention the doll upgrade kits and rainbow/standard banner tickets that come with the costume gacha if you are to spend the full $60, thus adding to the value proposition of the feature. Also it was actually impossible to not get cinderella if you played the entirety of the old tales event and took part in the CD-Keys and other freebies they dropped throught. It would've added up to over 200 event banner pulls, thus giving you a guaranteed copy of her in the pity system.

That’s why whenever i buy the skin i just think of it as donating to the developers albeit an expensive one. Truth be told I am totally a part of the problem a big part actually I have every gacha skin I’ve actually done a review on majority of them. As someone who loves Gacha games, I honestly prefer the skin in costume purchasing over putting a huge amount of money to get a character that I’m not guaranteed that will be permanent. The bonus part about it to me is once I buy the cost to my also guaranteed advance recruitment vouchers among other things that will help enhance my units. But to be honest when it comes down to it, you’re paying about $40 for a skin technically and then you’re paying the other 20 is going to go towards the other things and just like with the monthly skin, you technically monthly skins, you’re playing 10 for the costume and 10 for the stuff that you get for the paid version. And the same goes for the event passes that comes out. The only thing about the monthly passes is those costumes don’t get to the shop just like the Gacha skins. But I can definitely agree that as someone who buys them the making them a little cheaper would make things a bit better for people but the same time they make their money. But the day I do have to shift up has always sold the skins, but in the original game, Destiny’s Child, they give you a way to get the skins other than paying for them, which was either working your azz off to get them out of a raid by luck or by getting them on a final page of the raid battle out of a chess for 200 points if not more. Which required the time being very high. But I did quite a lot better I was Big. I do apologize, I truly enjoy watching you. You’re actually one of my inspirations to keep pushing. One thing that happened to me the one time I went ahead and put the whole 60 in it one time I ended up getting the viper skin on the very first pluck when she showed up for gold. I was so pissed. Nikke has made me care about something I would have never thought of caring about. It’s kind of dangerous. The lobby wallpapers. And some of those gacha skins have some wiiiild wallpapers. So there’s that added addiction of MLBing units with good wallpapers as well; regardless if they’re meta or not. Looking at S Rosanna.. but yeah $60 is crazy. Really, what irks me the most is how hard ShiftUp tries to bait people into spending on the Costume Gacha. You get 6 tickets for free, with the first and second attempt costing 1 ticket each, and the third attempt setting you back 2 more. But the fourth attempt demands 4 tickets, and you're 2 short now. But buying just those 2 tickets still doesn't get you the skin because it cannot drop until round 06/10, meaning you MUST invest at least 20$ to even get a chance at all. That's disingenuous design on top of a bloated price. If the costume had a chance to drop right from the start (even if at an even lower chance), then I wouldn't entirely mind it. But you must buy into it to have a shot, and they try really hard to hide that info.

I love Modernia as a character in design and not just because it is Marian, but after months of trying to pull for her but ultimately failed I finally pulled for her on my Birthday so I thought it was my lucky day, but when I was spending time with family I didn’t know second affection was happening, and I didn’t participate in the event so I didn’t get the second affection skin, but I had the first affection skin, I wish the team behind NIKKE would actually give players a second chance to claim these costumes in special events. But i like simplicity and I think the Original characters are my favorite instead of the skins or costumes.

It costs even more in Europe, they take 13€ and you need to buy 5 packs of the biggest one which is a total of 65€ and € is worth more as a currency. Remember 10 pulls are worth $30 so its 20 pulls + skin for $60 its not JUST a skin. So if youre buying pulls anyways its a bundle worth it. A better critic is having the pulls and skins closer too 1/3 chance when it gets to that point so its easier to get the skin earlier while having the more pulls optional. If you get the skin before the pulls then the value is around $30 I think which is more appropriate then you get the option of going more to get the pulls at a cheaper price. Thats if they want to keep this gacha system.

I seen worst....rng for part of costumes that have stats that unable to obtain by any ingame activity...about 6-7 parts to complete+fullseteffect+the costume can be enchanted+rng with rarity and roll (the same rng with ol gear) in some online game over 20 year ago(very common in kr online mmorpg back in the day)

Actually yes 60 Bucks for a skin is way too much. But if you count the other items that you get from this Costume Gacha Roll, it might be a decent price even when it should be just 40 bucks instead. I failed a few times to resist latest one was with Aschenputtel unfortunately. Still better then the first release when devs just had a few re-skins and want to charge you 23.99 for it while the Mission Pass with the same price grants you a skin AND in-game items. Nikke is good but expensive in some aspects.

They are overpriced and absolutely should be avoided at all costs! I think I've bought 4 of them so far. Also minor correction when they did the double skins they gave you some extra tickets dropping the cost to 50 bucks per skin.

It is 60 usd , and in my country currency, that is about 90 bucks So, the gacha skin is hell lot more expensive than it looks

I think the reason the costume gacha feels so bad is that the value of what you actually get as far as items goes is really poor. Same is generally true for a lot of the things the game sells, but that's a whole other rant. About half of the items are not that useful and even the useful ones are not really things I want to pay for. Getting essentially 20 pulls, where only 10 of them go towards the banner that actually has the unit on it, for $60 feels really bad after it's all said and done. Combine this with the fact that there's very limited interactions with the skin and it really stops being worth it. Most of the burst animations are also not worth it, partly because there's only 1 voice to go with them and there's no tap animation. It honestly feels like the way the burst lobby screens are for gacha skins right now should be the baseline for any given skin, with gacha skins having some special interactions like what you see in Azur Lane. I fell for the Crown skin back at the half anniversary because I assumed (which I know I should have done more research) that there would be more to it than there is. To be honest, that particular skin feels lifeless compared to her base skin, especially the tap animation for the lobby, which makes the whole thing feel worse. I honestly wish I could trade the skin in for 10 or 20 recruit vouchers, but oh well.

I'm in a financial position where gacha skins are expensive but aren't going to make me miss the rent or not eat. Yeah the price is outlandish for a lot of people, and I wish there was another way to get them, but at the end of the day you get an OL Selector, a Doll, multiple pulls and other resources for leveling your characters. I won't say it's good value, but at least you aren't getting *only* a skin. When you compare it to the other items in the cash shop that cost the same, I think it kind of evens out.

I couldn’t help but pull Crown’s and Cinderella’s costumes, I’m part of the problem. I’m sorry :(. You should definitely have a chance to pull the skin from the starting pulls, especially with that abysmally low rate. Cmon, let people be hyped when they pull the skin from the first free pull

I remember spending so much on crown's skin. I kind of regret it 😂 Needless to say, i feel that the skin costumes appeals more to the whales who pays alot in the game.

While it’s not much better, the gacha’s that give you free gacha points like 2nd anniversary means that you saved $10. Still a good bit of change to spend but it’s a little bit

The biggest thing for me is that, as far as I know, NO ONE has ever gotten a gacha skin without spending $60. There's no doubt in my mind that it's all a scam. Lower the cost to $40 and then it'll be worth the price.

I got both scarlet and cinderella before 10 pulls (7 and 8) but marciana, viper and dorothy fucked me over. I know it's a shitty system but If I can afford it, I'm sorry but I'll keep buying them
