We used to roll the tops of our school skirts over to shorten them as soon as we walked out of the front door! Then hastily lengthened them again as we went through the school gates!. That was back in the 70's.....nothing changes!!!!

KZbin suggested this video and I'm so glad for the algorithm (for once!) I too enjoy translated fiction and read French and Japanese authors. I just discovered Antoine Laurain and read French Windows (his latest). That was really good, but the bookseller was right. You can't go wrong with any of his books!

Glad to see the rescue chickens looking so healthy! On the subject of historical handwriting - if you haven't already, you NEED to go to Beatrix Potter's house in the Lake District! Many of the original copies of her stories, handwritten as letters and hand illustrated by her, are on display there. I got shivers looking at them!

Gorgeous vlog - bookshop, chickens, family life!! I live in South Yorkshire and when I can I drive an hour or so down to Cromford in Derbyshire (where Alison Uttley grew up) to Scarthin Books. A tall, crooked house opposite a small mill lake, with a lovely cafe, sloping floors, creaking doors, three floors of new and second hand books. A real treat of an outing do visit if you have the chance.

What a cute bookshop. Hope you have a great trip to Spain. We went in April and it was very crowded then which really surprised us. I had tried to get tickets for the many Gaudi museums before hand, but was not able to. Thought we could just get them there in Spain - nope! They were completely sold out! We loved the Gothic section which is where “All you knit is Love” and there is a darling/yummy coffee shop catty corner from it called Cafe Bobe. A easy dinner was enjoyed at Poca Salta. I also highly recommend having a Sangria especially if you are at the end of a hot day!

I've enjoyed both Shadow of the Wind and The Familiar. Both have magical elements and mysterious plots. We visited Northern Spain in May and it is a marvelous country to visit. I studied in Valencia for my junior year abroad in college (many years ago, lol) and my family is originally from Asturias. (Oviedo). In the late 1800s they traveled to Cuba and never returned to Spain so I have always felt a connection. So much history, great food and wine and lovely beaches.
