Love verbena! I've been planting lollipop in pots for years, this year I added ordinary verbena in the middle of the pot, with lollipop around the edge - I will be repeating! Mine almost never last the winter as we often get cold winters, but they self seed, i quite enjoy them popping up in random places.

Like your gardens, ours are between seasons. Our hydrangea are gorgeous right now. All varieties, and have even turned pink and brown as we head towards fall. I live in NW Pennsylvania, on Lake Erie, and our summer has not been that great either. We have only had a few warm, humid days alternating between cool and rainy days. Plus, we have had smoke from Canada wild fires affecting our sun. Cool at night, hate it. We always have a 4th of July party on the Saturday before had to cancel due to rain. I've only been in our pool after dark and have to have our outdoor fireplace and patio heaters going to be out after dark in our pavilion. The garden is not great. Only lettuce and Roma tomatoes are doing well. Roses and flowers are ok.

@@sandrahossman2089 I agree. I am in Maine in Scarborough. The rainiest most humid summer of my life. Our garden was a disaster. I too have a pool and I usually have 75-100 swims a summer, as I exercise in the pool most days, but this year only 38 so far. Thank goodness we aren't in Texas, Arizona, or Florida. I have friends and family in all and they say it's just awful. I lived in Bucks County for 3 years and absolutely loved it! Near Peddlers Village in Lahaska and New Hope. So beautiful and historic. Pennsylvania has alot to offer!!

The garden never bores and I am thinking of trying phlox again and would like a paniculata geranium and maybe try deep plum penstemon and chocolate cosmos. I have trouble with the blue geranium but will have a look tomorrow to see how faring.

If you love hydrangeas, you must go to Nantucket in the States. Almost all of the houses there have hydrangea plants lining their yards. It is really a sight to see, so many purples, pinks and blues!

I reaĺly am sorry that you have had such a dismal summer in England this year, but thank your lucky stars that you didn"'t have to endure the weeks in the mid-40s which we had in southern Europe and North Africa, plus the humidity. I know you've experienced the heat of Dubai, but this year it has been really torrid and we're gasping for a cool, wet, English summer day!
