Another lifesaver Harry! I've seen a lot of accidents in F5J where the pilot had no brakes (butterfly) as they were not in landing flight mode. My preference is to have butterfly available in every flight mode. I sat down with Tx, Rx and two servos to experiment. I followed the video except P4 butterfly control is active in all flight modes. I set all the flight mode flap constants to 90% and all flap throws in butterfly to -190%. I did not know if this would effect flight mode trim and any mixes, the good news is that it doesn't, flap camber can be set with flight mode trim. I am setting an F5J glider up from scratch, correcting a bad setup I did a few years ago. Will confirm that all this works. The MPX Cortina flew BTW, perfect!

Update: It was all working fine apart from the offset (dead band) of P4 being at the wrong end (flaps fully down). There is no way I could find of swapping this to the other end so I tried swapping the signs of the flap function curve offset and butterfly flap travel (minus flap constant, positive butterfly flap travel) and 'unreversing' P4 which works. Now I have to go through all my other gliders and set them up properly!!! Cheers.

Big Big thanks to you for making a video on this topic, really appreciate it👏😊

Many thanks for the detailed video on topic Harry ! This is very helpful. It raises an additional question though: you're taking the assumption that one has negative or positive camber set by default and as a fixed value in the speed and thermal flight modes respectively. What if one wanted to have the same (neutral) camber in all flight modes, in order to provide the option to activate camber (or not) with a dedicated switch/slider in each flight mode ? would you still offset the neutral in the function curve, with the same value in each flight mode, or would you do things differently ?

Just repeat the offset constant function curve in every flight mode, and set individual switches per mode in the butterfly

Hi Harry... you are a lifesaver thank you for all the effort you go to with your videos. I am just fine tuning a large Valenta Cirrus glider that has one servo for flap and one for aileron each side. I have programmed the offset on flap as described here. However, the model has large airbrakes and those I will operate from my throttle stick. I will use thermal mode for towing (6.4m WS and 15kgs so heavy girl) and would like to have a landing flap with small amount of butterfly in ailerons to keep it very stable. I tried to setup a separate switch to allow flap operation additional to flight modes default, thermal and speed. Managed that, but found when switching in and out of the default flight mode, with flap switch at neutral position, to the next flight mode, the flaps bounced to full travel then back to correct position. Tried many things and cannot stop it hitting a limit then immediately moving to its correct position. I must have something mixed up. Is that enough info to help please?

I do not understand how you have programmed it. Contact me by Facebook Messenger

Would it not be a lot easier just to offset the servo am on the server that’s what we used to do

What about the plane? I can not get full travel. Is it going to work on plane too?

I don't understand the "log max" value for the reference of the switch. Can you explain this?
@cotswoldpilot3 жыл бұрын
The butterfly switch must have a value. We simply want it to be permanently ON but Jeti has not provided an ON in the list of switches. LogMax is an ON value

@@cotswoldpilot aha, I understand. Thanks a lot. By the is the value 100% or 125%?
@cotswoldpilot3 жыл бұрын
@@SebastienKasman I expect it will be 100

@@cotswoldpilot I've just checked it and the flap will go to 125%

@@SebastienKasman that is not LogMax, that is a travel value that you have set. The LogMax does not make the servos move, it just enables them to move to the travel value that you have set in another field
