I love this tutorial thank you. The scaling is confusing to me. What number did you give us? Do you have a tutorial on the math of this?

Oh this is perfect. I have a pair of corduroy pants that don't fit me anymore that would be great for this. My English great-grandfather and grandfather exclusively wear flatcaps, so I might as well continue the tradition 😁
@themodernmakermathewgnagy215 Жыл бұрын
Perfect! As you embark on making one, please see the note in the comments that one of the calculations in the diagram for the top is incorrect. the overall length measure should be Circ/1.68 and not circle/0.94 as shown in the video.

Thank you so much for this tutorial! I have a lovely flat cap after my late grandfather but it's slightly too big and I haven't dared to go in and try making the band fit me. Might still do that at some point but now I can make a new one to wear in the meantime!

Great video! Your hat looks sooo good! Nice job! Lots of good tips along the way that really helps out in getting a nice finished product! I can't wait to make the first one because I already want to make a few different styles. Haha! Thank you for teaching us the ropes, Champ! PS Thanks for the correction on the last measurement, too. I was a bit lost drafting the pattern. Blessings!

Excellent sewing tutorial! Thanks for that. For clarification, if my circ=56 cm, the full length of the Top part (w/o seam allowance) shall be 56/1.68=33.33 cm?

Great tutorial thank you. I know you’ve included the drafting diagram at the start but is it possible for you to drop a pdf of it somewhere? Thank you.

@themodernmakermathewgnagy215 Жыл бұрын
There already exists a playlist of knitting videos! You just have to scroll to find it. Apparently KZbin only shows the beginning of the playlists. Its there, I promise!

As a beginner I am wonder8ng if a grosgrain ribbon would be considered a stay tap? The pattern mentioned. It that from the book you spoke of or did I miss a link to an actual pattern? Thank you for walking through your process.

The cap turned out so well! Is grainline important for these pieces?
@themodernmakermathewgnagy215 Жыл бұрын
Yes and no...I would say the grainline on the brim isn't as important as the grainline on the top and sides. The lining doesn't really matter than much and can be cut at whatever grainline is most efficient. The felt, of course, has no distinct grainline. The grainlines I used are drawn on the pieces in the diagram.

Fun video! Mathew, where do you get that wonderful thick felt. I've been looking for some like that for a project I have, but haven't been able to find it. (Multiple layers of craft felt won't work for the project, unfortunately. I may have to use leather if I can't find a felt like that.)
@themodernmakermathewgnagy215 Жыл бұрын
If you are going to use the multiple layers of thin felt...you need to channel quilt them together so they're stiff. Or use fusible between all the layers. But the felt I used in the video, I think I picked it up at Mood Fabrics, ages ago for a project. You can order similar felts online from various sources. I like The Felt Company: www.thefeltcompany.com/felt-materials/

There seems to be a mistake in the pattern for the top part of the pattern. The longest measurement (circ/0,94) can't be right because that's almost double the second longest (circ/1,8) and would make for a really funny looking hat. Would love to know what the measurement should be :)
@themodernmakermathewgnagy215 Жыл бұрын
Thanks for the heads up...I will check it!

Not true. My pattern is RIGHT at the beginning of the tutorial. Watch again. The pattern is specifically created so that you can scale it to your own head.
