Good idea. Now my runs to get lumber / long things will be a lot easier I have a 5.5 foot bed F150 which does have the pockets, but they are under the rail covers and do not have caps. I tried to take the covers off and gave up and instead drilled a pilot hole in the middle of where I figured they were then cut out the plastic with a exacto knife. On my truck they were 2 x 1/2 " holes. Then I discovered there was no bottom plate in my stake pockets, but there were wires for the tail light down there. So I am adding a 2x4 that rests on the top of the rails and crosses the bed to control the depth / support everything.

actually if anyone else gets this bright idea there were no actual pockets (walls or bottom plate), just the opening in the top of the rail.

Had that same problem with my 2011 f150. So I bolted brackets to the bed floor and bolted 2x6’s to that for the main support columns

Why does every home realty show have to be under a "timed event"? That's why there is such shoddy builds out there.

That's a pretty slick project. Unfortunately we can't really see in 2 minutes the bigger "plan" but for us DIYers, we get it. I wish that truck companies would put stake pockets back in the truck beds!

They are there. You just have to cut the plastic cap out yourself. Edit: just realized this is a 2y old comment.

Transport long expensive woods, core materials, and ultralight heirloom quality paddle craft. Been there done that. Wood racks shake apart over every bump in the road. Even had Brasilian Ipe(very badass wood)in 3&1/4" stock drilled into sheat metal of my truck. I wised up paid the bucks and got plastic 2X2" angle from Alro steel& plastic to act as a buffer for the sides of my truck bed. Then simply assembled Rexroth Bosch Aluminum Framing System "T"-slotted extrusions into my personal designed 11foot truck rack. Their local dealers sent me every component. All that was needed was a socket wrench. IT NEVER SHAKES APART!

I am sitting over a 1"thk. "Rexroth Bosch Group" "Aluminum stuctural framing system" catalog. You want to load all that in Internet search bar. Here is why. In the left hand side coluum of what comes up you will see their local dealer for all thats in their catalogs. Mine was a 33 mile drive. They have designers& draftsmen/craftsmen who precision cut and advise material costs vs. strenght requirements. Everythings done rite there. I would concider attachment points at the truck bed sites(rails). Thats why i used a 1/4" by 2" x 2"angle abs plastic (buy from a plastics dealer or let Rexrorh advise)to sandwitch betwean the aluminum rack to take up shock and disapate rust or moisture over time. The local dealers will walk out side to your truck to get exact cuts and if they are 3D design capable they will provide you with a multipul view "Rendering" of the finished rack or enclosure. These folks even have specialized aluminum profiles that allow plexigllass windows that slide open if you wanted something like that. For sure a finished product would look slick& professional.

Because the sides of upper bed sheet metal DOSEN'T always go parallel measurements should be taken near the cab and near the truck bed gate. See my other reply. Also they can pre-drill mounting points into your asembly that will allow them to lower your entire rack enclosure on to your truck. I recommend stainless steel 5/16" or 3/8" shank thickness atachment bolts. These guys will do the whole assembly rite there or you will be provided with detailed plans and picture scematics. The plastic ABS 2 x2 angles could be backed up by compressable rubber to ensure waterproofing. The Aluminum Structual framming System folks need to know the whole deal on the attachment to your bed.

Any one into serious DIY or building,, just get a trailer, safe strong, and there's trailers out there you can push in to corners of your yard, garage, garden that takes up no room at all. Imagine a 8ft length of rough sawn timber nippin threw your windscreen and taking your lid clean off.
