Hello Ian. Hope you are ok and I just want say that you are absolutely outstanding as a musician and teacher of both Bluegrass and traditional Irish music . This brings me great joy and it is a dream come true as I love this kind of music very much. Your version of Cotton Eyed Joe is excellent! God bless you and many thanks.

This is the BEST version EVER!! You would put a smile on Bill Monroe, Ricky Skaggs, Andy Leftwich, Bruce Molsky, Fiddlerman, Jay Buckey!! I listened to this, then I, ever so gently, smashed my fiddle into the wall, into a million pieces.

I watch you all the time on my tv. Can't figure out how to comment from tv. I am recovering from major surgery. Staples finally removed but very restricted for several weeks yet. I love your lessons! I watch Maidens Prayer over and over. Hope i will be able to play it better when I can. Can't now but one can learn so much by watching! I so love to watch your fingers dance over the finger board! I could never do that but i think i will play better just by watching. Thank you for your wonderful videos. You are a God send to me in this slow healing process!

"If you're gonna play in Texas, you gotta have a fiddle in the band." "I remember down in Houston, we were putting on a show, and a cowboy in the back stood up and yelled 'Cotton eye Joe!'"

I've played this instrumental for years on the guitar but your playing on the fiddle is one of the very best performances I've ever seen. I'm from Texas and believe me I've seen it wrecked a bunch.

Great lesson. Only people who gave it a thumbs down are probably the ones that want the whole lesson for free or didn't put the time in to follow and practice his suggestions. I bought the whole lesson and am actually surprised that after only a few days hammering on my violin... I can play it not too bad (with a few tricky variations dropped at this point). That said... I'm hardly and intermediate player and have only a classical background. So that says a lot. Ian Walsh is pretty gifted at playing and teaching so I highly recommend purchasing the whole video if you want to play this song like this. NOte: the sheet music provided is pretty basic... so be prepared to write it out and add in all the variations if you are a sheet music junkie like me..

Do you have the other solo, what starts on G string from a? Before the second chorus, before the women starts to sing, there is a longer solo.

Any sheet music for this?
@aaronhahn7776 жыл бұрын
you will have to buy the video and it comes with "basic" sheet music. None of the variations are on the pdf though... and it is just the main reel notes. So be prepared to copy paste the lines a few times and note in all the variations yourself. I really want to write out the notes in entirety with all the variations etc... maybe i'll do it on music score software and post it up if I get around to it...

im trying to get a fiddle but I don't know what kind is better for fiddling
@willowbraid95647 жыл бұрын
Matthew Escate the difference is in the bridge. a violin for classical playing has a more pronounced arch on the E string. And a better bridge for the fiddle is has less of a curve for ease when doing double stops and string crossing. hope that helps. I would take someone who knows about fiddles/violins with you. I wish I had when I got my first one.

So what you're saying is, Cotton Eye Joe is not possible on the violin if you don't know what cords are or ...where ..the letters are.... Understood.
